Two Things Tuesday

1. I am having a contest on my Facebook page in honor of Mother's day.  Super easy all you have to do is nominate a mom! I will pick one winner and send them a prize at the end of the week.

Mother's day is just around the corner! I am giving away a ONE Mom needs a break bath bar. Nominate your mom, nominate a friend who is an awesome mom or nominate yourself! I will select a winner at random on Friday May 2nd, just tell me why you deserve to be pampered.
Right now, no one has entered so the chances of winning are high. :)

2. Yesterday, I went out for my run/walk while the baby napped in the stroller.

 We upgrade from running in the car seat attached to the stroller to just relaxing in the stroller. Doesn't it look comfy. My mileage may have been short yesterday but it was a tough 2.5 miles. I  did run/walk intervals but at times I felt my run was so slow I might as well walk, I pushed through in the end.

90% Chance of rain

90% Chance of rain that is what the forecast said we when we decided to head out for our run yesterday.  I had the kids with me, Ms. J in the stroller and Ms. E was going to ride her bike. The bike that she is afraid of. In August of 2012 she fell off her bike and broker her arm. Since, then every time we suggest she gets on her bike she cries. Training wheels still on, but we need to get confidence back before we take those off or get a bigger bike.

We went to a very flat trail and road slowly, with lots of stops and reassurance. By the end of the time it was hard for me to keep up. That is my goal though, to get her riding so in the summer she can ride while I run. We did 2 miles before it started to pour down rain.

Last week (workouts completed in bold)

Monday: 2.5 mile run
Tuesday: Burn Circuit

Wednesday: Burn Intervals & Ab Burner / 2 mile run
Thursday: Burn Circuit
Friday: Burn it Off & Recharge
Saturday: 3.5 mile run
Sunday: Burn Circuit  - 2 mile run instead

Getting better, Saturday I was lazy. I should have got the workout done, but I didn't. I figured I could push it to Sunday but then I only was able to get 2 miles in because of the rain. So is life, each week small improvements.

Monday: 2.5 Mile Run
Tuesday: Burn Circuit  - 1
Wednesday: Burn Intervals & Ab Burner / 2 mile run
Thursday: Burn Circuit - 2
Friday: 3.5 mile run
Saturday: Rest (I have a big event planned for my Posh business, I will be on my feet all day)
Sunday: Burn Circuit- 3

Saturday Product Spotlight: The Stripper

There is a running joke in the Posh Community about having a date with a stripper. The Stripper is a detox mud mask that is great for deep cleansing of the body. I use it on my face in the T-zone to help with acne control. However, there are many uses for it from helping with a cold sore to using it as a body wrap.

I don't want to be a sumo wrestler

A while back I got a Barnes and Nobel credit for some class action lawsuit. I completely forgot about it until the other day when they emailed reminding me about it. I promptly went online and downloaded:

I don't know why I like to read these books, I know what to do. I guess it is just to reassure me that I am doing the right thing.  Every once in a while I get an ah ha moment. Last night, I took photos of these statements and posted them on my Facebook and Instagram.

Reading this combined with the workout DVD's I have been doing is another reminder that improvement is needed in the kitchen. I know I say that all the time. I did so well last time I lost over 60lbs, I don't know why it is so much harder this time.

I want to blame nursing the baby, but she doesn't make me stuff cookies and sugary treats in my mouth until I am sick. Control, will power, confidence in myself that I can become the person I was is what I need. I will get there and I will not be come a sumo wrestler.

1. Wednesday, I completed a DVD from the ChaLean Extreme set that I had not tried yet. The Burn Intervals workout was a mix of cardio and light weight/tons of rep arm work. My arms were shaking by the time I was done. The weight work felt like a break from the quick intense cardio sessions, until the last 20 seconds - then it was just pain.

2. I bought another top from Costco $9.99 - I love the green color.

3.  And for fun, my two babies (okay Evie is 6 now, so not a baby). I cannot believe that Jillian is over 8.5 months already. She will be 9 months on the 2nd. These kids grow up so fast!

Oso Strong 5K

Registration is only $35 through the month of April.

May 1st the price increases to $40!
June 1st it will increase to $45!...
July 1st it will increase to $50!


There is a virtual option! I would love to representatives from all of the states. To date there are participants representing different states throughout the country including: Texas, California, Virginia, Wisconsin, N. Carolina, Nebraska, Hawaii and Oregon!

Last weeks update

Just a day late, but not a dollar short! Yes, that was bad. :)

Last weeks goal was aggressive and I missed some of it. I marked in bold everything I was able to complete.

Monday: Burn Circuit / 2.5 mile run
Tuesday: Burn Circuit + 3 mile walk
Wednesday: Burn Intervals & Ab Burner / 2 mile run
Thursday: Burn Circuit
Friday: Burn it Off & Recharge  - Took a rest day
Saturday: 3 mile run - Ended up getting sick and did not run
Sunday: Easter  / Rest
I am not worried, moving into Week 2 10K training and here is the plan. Again no rest day is planned but I am sure I will take one just not sure which day yet.

I need new running shoes

The last time I got new running shoes was in December of 2012, Sean bought me my current pair Mizuno Wave Inspire 9s for Christmas. They are so pretty, they replaced my Mizuno Wave Inspire 8s.

I really like these shoes for my feet. Now, I know you are saying WHY are you still wearing a pair of shoes from 2012. Well, I got pregnant and barely did any running, in fact I barley walked due to round ligament pain. I decided it was time for a new pair. I went to Online Shoes to look at the latest styles.

I instantly went eeeewwwww as I just wasn't feeling the new color scheme.  I don't know why they just weren't right for me.
I decided it was time to look for a new shoe for me, my requirements being:
  • moderate stability
  • light weight
  • cute color (of course)
Shoes that are on my list - all three brands I have worn at some point, but I have been wearing the Muzino Wave Inspire since 2011.

  3. Asics Gel-Cumulus 15

If I was going solely on looks I would order the Mizunos, I have had both older version of the Brooks and Asics, but can't remember why I switched. I will let you all know when I decided.

Finding the time

Thursday, I got creative with my workout and nap time. I had to run errands and I knew the little one would fall asleep in the car. The problem is I have two small dogs that like to bark. If I carry her back in the house in her car seat the dogs back, and most of the time the baby wakes up.

When I got home I pulled into my normal carport space but didn't get out of the car. I sat there and thought about how I could get my workout in. I decided to pull my car into the garage, which is a challenge in itself since I have an SUV and my garage was designed for a Mini or at least the entrance was.  We have a tandem garage which means it is super long. The good part is I have a workout area in the back where my treadmill and bike are sitting in front of a TV.

I decide that I would just leave the little one asleep in the car. Run upstairs and get my workout DVD and come back and do it in the garage.  This was a total win.

Little miss was able to complete her nap and I was able to do my ChaLean Extreme Burn Circuit workout. She ended up waking up just at the end so I moved her out of the car to watch and finished up.  Not ideal situation, but I am working on getting my workouts in and not making excuse why I can't get them done.

1. I have completed both my 2 out of 3 runs so far this week with another run scheduled for Saturday. So far so good on week 1 of 10K training.  My left knee is giving me a bit of trouble, but I am trying to just take care of it and keep moving. Last time I started running my right knee gave me troubles, turned out to be the IT band, so I know the drill on how to rehab it.

2. Sleep training still sucks.  This little one has a strong will and once she falls asleep wakes up a few hours later even more hysterical, so I am not sure how well this is working.

3.  I am sad to see the rain back in Washington. Yes, I know many of you got snow the other day but I dislike the dreary weather. I have also gotten used to taking the kiddo out for a walk/run during the day. When it rains we don't go out. She is still a little young to be taking out in the rain. This means that I hit my treadmill last night, oh how I missed my treadmill. My run only called for two miles, but it felt great to get them done.

Rookie mistake

Monday, I went out for a run and grabbed my Garmin. I figured I was only going 2.5 miles, but I might as well start using it. I went on my local path which is flat and allows me to push the stroller without any problem.

As I was making my way back to my car, I took a turn. I figured I would run up and back to add an extra half mile. I looked at my watch at the turn around point and realized that I had stopped it at some point. Doh! I turned it back on LOCKED the bezel and finished my run. I got back to my car and my mileage was off. So I decided to run back up the little out and back again. I wanted my Garmin to say 2.5 miles.  Pretty sure, I ended closer to 3 miles but know next time I will remember to lock the bezel. 

During my run, I wore this top I picked up earlier in the day from Costco. It was GREAT! I plan to go back and get more. I think they were only $9.99 and it was comfortable and cute.

Sleep Training Hell

I feel off blogging and all things fitness last week as we entered the dreaded sleep training hell. My kiddo is 8.5 months and has spent more time then I would like sleeping in my bed. While I have no issues with co-sleeping, I would just like my bed to be for me and my husband.  My sleep also suffers when she sleeps with me, I worry to much and wake up all stiff from not moving.

We had her sleeping in this thing called a rock and play, which is a pretty cool little hammock like thing. Which was great and all, until she figured out how to get out of it. It does have straps to strap them in, but I have not been able to successfully strap her in an keep her asleep. She is a mommies girl and would rather cuddle with mom then sleep in her own crib. 

I have spent my evenings trying to unsuccessfully, get her to sleep in her crib. Saturday night she finally fell asleep on her own, to wake up at midnight hysterical and refusing to go back to sleep in her room. This causes an issues because she shares a room with her sister.  I hate listening to her cry, but I also don't want her in my bed forever as my sleep suffers.

At this point, I am not sure what we are going to do - I am not sure how many more unsuccessful nights of sleep training I can take before I just go back to having her sleep with us. I fear she may never sleep in her crib, it might become the most useless baby item we have purchased.

Now I continue my life sleep deprived and have a super ambitious workout week planned to try to get me back on track.  I have merged together my 10K plan of last week and the ChaLean Extreme Burn Phase plan (I got my DVDs back from a friend last week).

Sight adjustment

I am not sure what I was thinking starting a new plan during spring break, new plan starts next week. This week I will attempt to complete week 1, but yesterday was a bust. The plan was 2.5 miles, I thought great. I will take the kids too this park/trail near my house. The trail is a .5 mile loop and there is a park. I told my oldest we would do two laps, then play at the park and do 3 laps.

We completed out two laps with only a little complaining, took a break to play and then received a call from my husband that he needed lunch. This is not usually a problem but he didn't have any money on him so it was up to us to get him feed. Simply, I never completed the rest of my workout. 

Sometimes life gets in the way, my goal is to work find a way to make my workouts part of my life again.

10K Plan

Alright, I thought I was ready for a half marathon training plan, but honestly I don't have that time commitment right now. Remember I am slow. Instead I downloaded a 10K Novice Training Plan. My body cannot handle running more then 3-4x a week at most. This plan has me running 3x which is perfect.

I then searched online for a race that would end right around that time and perfect timing has the Seattle Shore Run on Sunday June 8th. I ran the 5K a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.  Shortly after I decided on the Shore run, I received an email from a new Half Marathon/10K that is June 21st  - the Snoqualmie Valley Half/10K. This event might be new but it looks nice.  The website says:

The Snoqualmie Valley Half starts at King County’s Tolt MacDonald Park and winds for about half a mile through the park before picking up the very scenic connector trail along the Tolt River.  At about 1 mile, the course joins the Snoqualmie Valley Trail and stays on it for the remainder of the "out" section the course, before turning around and retracing the route, finishing at King County’s Tolt MacDonald Park.

Now I have to pick which one, if this was two years ago I would just sign up for both.  No clue which one I will pick, or if I will pick a different one.

Gym, what gym

A few weeks ago I got my booty up and went to Spin class. While I loved/hated it, I never made it back. I looked at my log for how often I have gone to the gym this year and it was sad.  I looked at how often my husband had been and it was worse. I really wanted to get back in the gym, but I just wasn't making it there and whenever I went in I felt like I didn't belong.  I feel like since the last time I was there it just changed. I don't know how to explain it, just feels different.

After lots of discussion with my husband we decided to cancel our membership.  I went in prepared to argue with them about cancelling. Instead, they didn't even bother to save me or keep me as a member. I had been a member with them since 2007. That right there told me everything I needed to know.

Plus, have mentioned that I have a treadmill, spin bike, dumbbells and a ton of workout DVDs - there is no reason I shouldn't be working out at home. I also have a really nice paved flat trail near by for running with the baby stroller. No excuses.

There you have it. After 7 years of having a gym membership - I am preparing to tackle my battles at home.  I have downloaded a new running plan, but it has me running 5 days a week which I know my body cannot handle yet. I am going to tweak it and add in more DVDs to get my strength training in. Once I get the plan written out I will share.

Saturday Spotlight - Rubby Scrubby

When I was actively running I was cursed with runners feet. Black or missing toe nails, callouses and various other ugly issues.  When I as introduced to Posh, I feel in love with the Rubby Scrubby.

What Is It?: 
Scrubbing, hard working exfoliating beads in a minty soap base.
What Does It Do?: 
Scrubs and wears away dead, dry skin aggressively on feet and toes to reveal softer, healthy skin.

How To Use It:

Happy Friday

Random Junk Friday (because this is how my mind works lately)

  •  I was told this morning 9 DAYS OF SPRING BREAK, by my 6 year old. Do you think someone is excited to be out of school!
  • I of course am not one of those people. What am I going to do with her? Time to find a lot of activities to get her moving.   My own list of things to do is long these days, juggling the family, my new business and weight loss is not an easy task. I find myself just eating to eat.  Today, I have started out pretty well though. I ignored the leftover cake on the counter and made myself an egg sandwich.
  • Baby Jillian slept a little better last night and maybe that is helping me not want to consume all things. Do you ever notice when you are sleep deprived you just want to eat? Its like food will replace sleep, because that is good for your body. :)
  • I cancelled my gym membership yesterday, more on that next week.
  • We turned on our 2000 VW Golf after owning her for 12 years and purchased an Audi A8L! Went from super tiny, tiny car that people have referred to as cute to a tank.
  • I need new running shoes, but I don't want to spend the money. But if I don't spend the money I will need to spend it on doctors visit when my IT starts acting up again. Off to shop today.
All right that is all my randomness right now. Of course, as soon as I publish this I will think of 10 other things I should have posted. Maybe another day.

Happy Birthday to me!

Today is my birthday, sure I only have a few hours left but I have been enjoying myself.

We all skipped out on our responsibilities today and had a family day. Yes, I pulled my kiddo from school and my husband took the day off. We went to the aquarium, walked the water front and visited with friends.

I am still enjoying myself now with a second piece of cake. The rest of the cake is being sent to work with my husband.

Tomorrow, its back to business. I am also going to look up some half marathon plans. I need a goal. I need to be training for something so that I can be focused. I was thinking, or is it reflecting when you get old like me. I was thinking that my lack of plan, is not helping my motivation.

Goals for Thursday - find a training plan! Write our training plan and start to execute.

Also, no sugar! :)
