Facebook Page -

The OSO Strong 5k Race/Run/Walk is charity event to benefit a community turned upside down from the tragic events on March 22, 2014.
If you have not seen the news: On March 22nd, 2014, an entire community was turned upside down by a catastrophic mudslide that claimed the lives of many and effected the lives of many more. The communities of Oso, Darrington, and Arlington will never forget this day as it put these town on the national stage to display to strong sense of pride, community and perseverance they all share. A few individuals from Arlington felt compelled to do something to give back to so many that were affected by this event.
You may wonder why the event is in July. First off logistic, second families are going to need long term support not just the AMAZING out pour of support they have right now.

Won't you gather your friends and family to support these small towns in there time of need.  If you do not live in Washington, or it is to far to drive their is a virtual option.

Not waiting until Monday

I know, I have said it 1000x, I am starting today. Today is the day. Here we go again - today is the day I take the step to lose the weight. I have been living under the excuse of no sleep and I don't see that going away anytime soon, so I might as well start now.

The baby sleeps like crap, I have to adjust. That can no longer be my excuse to not do what is right for me. As mom's we often take the back seat to our kids. It's easy to do and I am going to say most of us probably like it. Today, I begrudgingly stepped on the scale. I knew it was going to be bad. I know the number is inflated because of the bad food choices this week

Instead of sitting around and complaining it is time to do something. I signed back into my My Fitness Pal account, sadly changed my weight and it all begins now.

What's the quote "You are only a failure, when you stop trying". Have to keep moving forward.

Happy Friday.

Oso is on my mind

I grew up in Arlington. I went to school in Arlington. I still have friends and family in Arlington. Oso is our neighbor town. Many people I went to school with lived in Oso, many friends of friends are from Oso.

I heard about the slide first from Facebook. Friends who lived in Arlington were worried about their own homes being flooded, as images came out, my heart broke.  I hate to say that I have been lucky to not know any one, but I have. I keep watching and waiting for someone I know to appear on the screen. I made calls to friends to confirm they were safe, but my heart still breaks.

I have not lived their since I was 20, but my heart aches. I wish every time I turn on the news for a survivor, I hope the pain can be eased for those with missing loved ones.

There are many ways to donate, I am not going to list them all as I want people to donate where the feel drawn to. Before you donate just make sure it is a legit set up.

Please keep these communities in your thoughts and prayers.

I love Spring

I love Spring, okay really I love summer, but the Spring we have had so far. Yes, I know it has only been a few days, but it is the perfect Spring.  Cool in the mornings, sunny and warm. Warm is relative because its spring, I feel like Olaf but I want to sing a song about Spring.

Instead of singing, because no one wants to here that I busted out the shoes I got from OnlineShoes last year.

If these green beauties don't scream spring then I am doing something wrong. The Women's Keen Mercer Ballarina CNX are no longer available in green but you can get them in blue and yellow! They are super comfy and I may even have worn them with my pajama pants out to the bus stop this morning. Yes, I am that mom who walks out in her pjs.

What are your favorite shoes to wear in the Spring?

1. Hello Spring, one more season and we are at summer!!!  I feel like spring has arrived for us. Of course, we have had snow in April before just crossing my fingers that does not happen.

2. I got my strength workout in yesterday, but no running. That will be accomplished today because it is beautiful out. Sunny and cool, perfect running weather.

3.  I just saw this post on Facebook this morning and had a good chuckle Half-marathon runner passes time on her run by taking selfies with hot guys. I guess that is one way to get through the miles.

Happy first day of Spring!

What didn't happen Wednesday

I didn't weigh in today, why because I know the number will be bad and I didn't feel like facing reality. My diet was a struggle yesterday, struggle is being nice because I didn't fight back my urges for sugar but gave in. Today, like ever day is a new day to make the right choices, to focus on the positive.

Positive - What I have done right this week:

Monday: I went for a 40 minute walk. My legs were a little sore from the St. Pats Dash. The  course, has a big hill that you go up and then back down. I wanted to keep moving but not push it, so we walked.

Tuesday: I did 20 minutes of strength. I got up to 4.25 rounds before my timer went off and I was a sweaty mess. We then went for a 60 minute walk, I had some errands to run so figured we might as well walk them.
Static Squat/Row and Fly 12x
Chest Fly/Crunch 12x
Squat/Curl 12x
Lunge/Side Raise 12x
Today: I have accomplished nothing - the goal is C25K, another round of strength and food improvements. I have all the stuff I need to be successful, I just need to execute the plan.
And in all things random, this had me laughing this morning! Happy Wednesday.

St. Pats Dash

This was my 7th year participating in the event and Seattle weather didn't let me down.  When I was up late nursing the baby, I could hear the rain coming down. I hoped that it would stop raining before the event started.

I woke up at 7AM, grabbed a peanut butter sandwich, water and a brownie and headed out the door. I figured I was going to be working off the brownie and could use a boost of sugar.  As I drove towards Seattle, the rain was getting lighter but it was still raining. I was thankful!

I arrived about 40 minutes early and decided to put on my emergency poncho. It was clear, but it kept the rain away. I meet up with a some friends and we found some shelter until our wave started.

Once our race started we hardly moved, we had to walk the first quarter of a mile, it was packed.  The crowds seemed smaller then last year, but we were not moving. Turns out they changed the route and because of the Mercer mess in Seattle we only had half the street, in the beginning.  We were in no hurry, we did a combination of run/walk and made our way to the hill. Up the hill and back down, a loop around and we were done. The distance, well they market it as nearly 4 miles. This girl wore her Garmin, but forgot to turn it on. :)

My one goal this year was to beat my last years time when I was pregnant, and we did by 10 minutes. I skipped the beer garden, but hat is no surprise, I am not much of a beer drinker and headed home.  My knee held up pretty well, although both of my knees ached all day, today they are feeling much better.

Happy St. Patrick's Day. Did  you participate in an event?

1. Workout catch up:
  • Tuesday - I did strength and ended up doing C25K as the weather cleared and I wanted to enjoy the sun outside.
  • Wednesday - I did nothing! See #2 below
  • Thursday -oh yea that is today, so far I have done nothing but it is only 7:51am. I plan to do strength then after lunch head out and do C25K. I am still on week 4 because that is what feels comfortable.
2. Miss Jillian is 7 months old, she is a generally happy baby but ever since she started crawling her sleep has gone down hill. It's sad when I think last night schedule is actually in improvement. She woke up at 12:30, 2:30, 3:30, 5:30 and 7:30am. The nights before she was waking up every hour!  Crappy iPad photo, but she is trying to pull the gate down already. Please tell me she won't be walking anytime soon.

3.  I went to packet pick up the other day for my race this weekend and say this:
This has to be a running bloggers dream right. A running store with a froyo place right next to it. :)

Have you fallen to the froyo craze?

I sat down to write my excuse for missing spin class, however, I opened Facebook and was distracted by this article.

To the fatty running on the track

And, well it really pissed me off.

I get it is supposed to be inspirational, but really do you have to start it with shaming the person, calling them a fatty! Really?!  This is not inspirational, reading it I am filled with rage before you even get to the statement that says you rock. By the time I get to that all I read is a condescending tone.  Maybe, its just me but if you want to provide inspiration to someone, don't start out by calling them fat.

Back, to my regularly scheduled blogging. I missed spin this morning. Miss J was just all over the place last night and my sleep was terrible. I finally got her settled and asleep in her bed and it was 5AM! Yup, the time I was schedule to wake up and go to class.

I just completed my 20 strength workout with 8lb weights. 3 rounds:
Static Squat/Row and Fly 12x
Chest Fly/Crunch 12x
Squat/Curl 12x
Lunge/Side Raise 12x

To make up the missed spin class, I plan to get on my spin bike later tonight and do intervals for 30 minutes, its not the same but at least it will keep me moving.

Edited: After I posted this I found the response from the guy on the track. I am glad I am not the only one who felt like he did.

Start out strong and then fade away

My week starts out strong! I find ways to get my workouts in, I eat healthy. Then Thursday comes along, and well it all goes down hill.  Friday my eating was okay, Saturday was bad and Sunday was just down right awful. I guess the good thing is I can just pick myself up and start over.

I was at Costco yesterday and I saw they were selling the Jillian Michael's DVD set - one of her mega plans and I thought I should buy this. Then I remembered I have the Chalene Extreme set, well I loaned them to a friend, so in the middle of the store I sent her an email asking for them back. I am a person who starts one thing, gets distracted and then starts another. No wonder I have issues losing weight and keeping it off.

I don't know what I am declaring or thinking of today - I think a while lot of nothing. Just that I need to stick to something. I need to check all the boxes off my week. I really need a goal. I need a race to train for I think, I just struggle committing still.

The plan for this week: M, W, F - Run / T, TH Spin and 20 min Strength

Goal: Check all the boxes off - water, food and exercises.

Did you survive the day light savings time change?

I love Friday

I avoided the scale on Wednesday, but did manage to get my C25K run in. I even was able to do it outside and was only rained on a little at the end.

Thursday I woke up to go to spin, but then baby girl woke up and wanted to eat and snuggle. She won and we went back to bed. I ended up getting my strength workout in during the afternoon.

Strength workout was 3 rounds:
Static Squat/Row and Fly 12x
Chest Fly/Crunch 12x
Squat/Curl 12x
Lunge/Side Raise 12x

I am using a workout band this week and plan to move to 8lbs next week. I am weak and need to slowly build back up to where I was.

Today, I plan to get my C25K workout in again. I hope I can get outside but the weather has been rainy, so crossing my fingers it will let up enough to run for 30 minutes.   Besides that I am heading to my 1st graders class to help with their garden project. Today we get to talk about worms! I am sure there will be lots of that is gross from the girls and excitement from the boys. Should be fun.

Have a great weekend and don't forget to Spring Forward on Sunday! Looking forward to longer nights.

They lied

You always here people say - just get up, go early, get it done. It isn't that bad. Those people lied! They must be those freaking morning people who have no problems waking up. Or who have kids who sleep through the night.

The my littlest, ever so cute gave me a run for my money last night. Not letting me put her down to sleep until 10:30PM and then getting up at 2AM and 3AM  just for fun. When my alarm went off at 5AM I wanted to throat punch someone. Instead I got my butt out of bed and went to spin class.

I was a sad, sad site.  I watched my clock the entire time waiting for it to be over. I even pulled up this picture on my phone as a reminder why I was there.

This sweet baby girl derailed my training, my fitness level and set me back to square one, but you know she is worth it. I wouldn't change it for the world, I just need to get back to where I was.  So there, I did it and I am sure I will go back again on Thursday, and complain about it. I know, it will get easier.

I saw this on Facebook the other day and I am need someone to make it for me.

Tell me how much easier Spin class will get in a month, tell me to shut up and suck it up, give me something to make it through the day.

Oh Monday

I am here, I am not happy about the results on the scale, but I did attend two birthday parties yesterday. Let's hope Wednesdays shows better results.

Last week was tough. Getting into the swing of things didn't go 100% as planned, but instead of getting down on myself I am going to move forward and make some changes. Work to overcome hurdles and see what this week will bring.

The plan for this week is going is pretty similar to last week:

M, W, F - C25K
T, Th - Strength

I have this crazy hair brained idea to get up and go to spin class on Tuesday and Thursday morning. I just looked up classes and they are at 5:30am, I think I could do that. I say that now, but honestly it is all contingent on how well my little one sleeps the night before.

Have a great week!
