Hola! Miss me!

I have thought about blogging, I have looked at my screen and then I closed it.  I have nothing to talk about, but I do, I really do.  Here is the quick recap of what has been going on since you last heard from me.....which was October! WOW okay this list might be long.

October
  • Wore my cast, did my therapy for my ankle
  • Went back to work full time after a 15 month maternity leave - insert sad face
  • Talk to a nutritionist about my diet, basically she confirmed everything I know. My body hates sugar and responds negatively to it.
  • Halloween! It was fun, girls were cute!

November
  • Chatted up my Ortho doctor and since PT is not helping looks like surgery.
  • Had an MRI  - that determined that I have an OLD torn ligament, a weird benign tumor thingy and something else, I forget. I emailed the Doc and he said
    • This means that the ligament is stretched out which is why your ankle is unstable. This is the main reason why surgery is indicated.  You have a very small fluid collection that was incidentally found on MRI. I would not worry about this since it is benign and will not affect the surgery or your recovery.
    • Surgery scheduled for Jan 29th
  • Thanksgiving happened! Was fun as usual, full of food and many meals

One day at a time

I am done pouting or at least that is what I am telling myself. I just finished riding my bike for 20 minutes and doing some arm weights. My ankle is throbbing now. The doctor and the physical therapist both said I can ride the bike but this was my first time getting on it.

I was hoping to go for at least 30 minutes, but I can tell I am going to have to build up. Riding the spin bike while boring at least gives me something I can do, besides focusing on my eating. I have found that I have slipped in to bad habits, in not eating and just drinking a lot of coffee and then eating a bad meal.  I am working on fixing that this week. I went grocery shopping this morning also and stocked up on healthy food that also taste good.

Besides  that, not much is different. One more week in the boot and then I go to a lace up brace. I can't wait to switch because me and the boot are not doing so well, it just makes me grumpy. I am trying to look on the bright side and I just can't find one.

Welcome to October

I have been silent for a few days because I have been sulking. While I was excited to go to the Ortho doctor on Monday I was not happy about the outcome.

While I have a bad sprain right now, I have ankle instability and my ligaments are very week. Here are the next steps.

Step #1: Come back in 6 weeks to re-evaluate

Step #2: Sign up to see a PT
Step #3: Wear boot for 2 more weeks

Step #4: Switch to lace up cast for 4 weeks

Step #5: At follow up in 6 weeks, if ankle is not stronger schedule MRI

Step #6: Discuss surgery options

If my ankle does not improve significantly over the next 6 weeks we will discuss surgery. The surgery would be to clear out old scar tissue and repair the ligaments (Brostrum). The procedure can include shortening and reattaching the lateral ligaments to reconstruct them. The MRI would tell us exactly how much needs to be done.  This has a 3-6 months recovery time, or longer.

One thing the doctor pointed out, nicely is that I need to lose weight. He said I am carrying to much weight for my poor ankles to support. He is surprised that I was able to run without more injury or pain.  He encouraged me to start working on weight loss.  I have actually reached out to my doctor for a referral to a nutritionist.

Today is a new day a day to start fresh. I plan to start posting what I eat through out the day to help keep me accountable. As for running, we will see if I can get back to that at some point, my blog might need a new name. For now it is non weight baring exercise, bike, swimming, elliptical, rowing ect. Time to check out some classes at the local pool.

How is fall treating you! It was like a switch was flipped, cool weather a little rain and Fall arrived. I am trying to embrace it as it is here, but I am not a fan of fall. I don't like the wet rain that comes with it. How is fall treating you so far?

I love good news after bad news. Monday, I got an appointment with an Orthopedic Doctor, but it was 3 weeks out. I was extremely bummed.

Tuesday morning I called and asked to be put on the wait list. They did that, then I asked if they could check while I was on the phone. She did and BAM! I have appointment on Monday! Super psyched about that. I want this darn boot off.  It already feels a ton better, like a 2-3 on the pain scale. I know, I know keep it in the boot until the doctor releases, me but I really want it out.

I have finished my first week of the squat challenge. I am feeling good, and can still move around.  Today is a rest day and week 2 starts tomorrow.

Happy Monday

I posted this on my Facebook yesterday and I just kept thinking about how we juggle life. Sometimes we are so busy that we cannot keep up, and other times we are just waiting for life to happen.

I was going along in the busy state and was forced to slow down. It's Monday and I have to call and try to get in with the Orthopedic doctor as soon as possible. I would love to be out of this boot soon. My foot is feeling a bit better, although swollen looking still, so I embrace it the best I can.

Plan for the week:
- Eat the best I can
- Weights, abs and other upper body work
- Foot exercise the doctor sent home with me. Never to early to strengthen.

I've been booted


Thursday, I rolled my ankle. I have done that 1 million times before. About every 6 months I roll it so bad it hurts for several days. I woke up Friday and I was still in pain, so I decided to go to the doctor. The last time I went to the doctor for my ankle, I was in high school.  We decided it was best to get an x-ray and see what the damage was or if there was any. 

Findings:
  • Bone fragment along the inferior tip of the medial malleolus, this appears to be old trauma, however in the setting of new trauma, an acute fracture component is not excluded.
  • Minimal plantar and posterior calcaneal spurring is observed.
  • Mild soft tissue swelling and join effusion may be present.
I was sad, so I ate pie. Yummy, Dutch apple pie. Then I got over it and sat down and figured out how I am going to still workout, until I see the Orthopedic doctor. This week should be interesting, to say the least.  For now, I make stupid boot jokes, take it off to drive as it is my right foot and overall have a pity party.

Today our team is participating in the 2014 Seattle Brain Cancer Walk benefiting the Ben & Catherine Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment at Swedish Medical Center. You might be wondering why we are walking for Brain Cancer.

Squat Challenge

There are a million Squat challenges out there, most of them are way to intense for me. I have no desire to do 200 squats in one day.

Last week, I found a good challenge and did it one day and then when I went to do the next day I couldn't find it. Thank goodness for My Fitness Pal sending a million and one emails because they sent me the squat challenge, again! It was like sign from the fitness fairy.

I started it Thursday, 20 squats were not bad at all! Not scary and hopefully, my body will agree tomorrow that I can handle. it.   I love that each week is a different type of squat.
 
Counter Balance Box Squat - is your basic squat, hands in front. I used a chair and had my bum just barley touch the chair before going back up.
 
Prisoner Box Squat - hands behind your head, but still use a surface to go down to. Chair, stool whatever you would like.
 
Counter Balance Air Squat - no chair, hands in front of you and just use your body weight.
 
Prisoner Air Squat  - This is listed as the toughest version. Hands behind your head, no chair and getting as close to parallel as you can.

TripleT

1. I ran on Tuesday night and it hurt, it wasn't that good hurt. It was that wow you are out of shape hurt. I hadn't ran in a week because of schedule and getting sick, so it is to be expected. But it sucks. I just keep reminding myself one day at a time.

2. Wednesday we took a walk with the kiddos a little of two miles, with some time to stop and play. It is always good to get out with the kids and it reminds me of when I was walking 20 minutes a day. I enjoyed that. I looked forward to that and I think I might start it again.

3. I printed out a beginner squat challenge. I need to start it. Guess I should make an official post on it to make it all written out and a goal. Why am I avoiding it. Oh I know, because I don't want my legs to hurt when I sit down to pee.

Here is this weeks plan, yes  it is Tuesday and I am already playing catch up. Last week was a mess, so no need to recap that.
 
I am almost back to  normal healthy wise, my house is not. While my family is getting better, it is a mess. We had our carpets cleaned LAST Tuesday and well they did a crap job. So they came back yesterday to do it again. This means everything is all over the place. We were the last stop for the day Monday night, leaving me a house that is out of control.  I just hope the carpets are dry today so everything can back in its place. I need order, our house is to small for this much craziness.
 
The bonus of getting your carpets cleaned is everything is picked up. All those little messes or 'storage' place as your kid refers them are purged. This helps with the holiday season coming. Speaking of holiday's we have already started decorating for Halloween and one little kiddo has a costume.  Here is a sneak peak.

Sunday Funday, posted on Monday

The back to school germs finally hit the me! My daughter brought them home first, followed by the littlest getting it and then the husband. I thought for sure I was in the clear until I woke up Friday feeling like death. I didn't even end up showering all day Friday or changing out of my PJs.
 
Saturday, was a BEAUTIFUL day in Washington, maybe on of the last nice days and we all lounged around feeling crummy all stinking day. I did manage to get a shower in at some point.
 
Sunday, I started to improve, although breathing is still difficult I felt like I need to get out and enjoy some of the nice weather. The kiddo's and I went to a local paved trail for a short walk. 


The trail is stunning this time of year and shaded 90% of the way. Which made it bearable to be out walking in the middle of the day. Although, the little one wasn't as happy on my back as she would have been in her stroller.
 
Big sister wanted to take photos along the way, and honestly if the path wasn't all uphill it would be a awesome spot in the fall for family photos. I need to see if I can figure out a flatter way to get to it. 

 
This was our turn around point. The trail took us to the freeway and this was a pedestrian bridge over it. The big kid thought it was cool because we drive under this bridge all the time and she had never stood over the freeway. The way back down was fun, and while she complained I think she was happy to be heading back to the care. The path wasn't long by any means, maybe 1.5 miles up, but I think she was tired of not having me run with her. Some how, she thought I could run with the baby on my back. 


 
 
At the end of this adventure, she said she wishes we could do it every day.  I  said we can come back because it is super close to home and as long as the weather cooperates we can practice our running on this path.

My survival kit - what would you take

I was contacted by Man Crates, a company that ships all kinds of gifts for men in wooden crates and asked:

Is I was stranded on a island what would I want with me?

Instantly, I thought Lip balm and coffee. :) I live and breathe for those things, and my family and what not. But let's get practical if I am stranded my family probably isn't with me. They are safe somewhere.


 
 
Every time I tried to write down something crazy that I would need, I countered with a practical item. So her is my list. Safe, boring but you know I would be happy!  

1. All you need is love lip balm - A big stick of moisturizing lip love. It's a natural blend of butters and oils that feed and care for lips. It's a whole lotta lovin' for lips. I need this because I assume, I am stranded on a sunny island. Not only will it work as lip balm, I can use it on cuts and scratches.

2. Gender Bender Big Bath Bar - Charcoal DTox: Clean that doesn’t discriminate. Because truly clean doesn't discriminate, the Gender Bender invites all to wash and be cleaned and Posh. I want to be clean! Salt water gets drying and sitting in the sand all day. If I was ever on Survivor this would be my luxury item.

3. Nuun All Day Drink Mix Tablets will send you to a hydration oasis with all day performance. These vitamin enhanced tablets will play a fundamental role in keeping you energized and focused while encouraging you to drink more water throughout the day. A girl needs to hydrate! Might as well do it with something that taste good. 

4. Nalgene water Bottle - Pretty self explanatory right, have water need place to keep it.

5. Books - I picked the Harry Potter book set, because there is enough of them that I could read them a few times before I got bored. Plus, if all else fails I can use the paper to keep me warm. Nothing would please me more then to be stranded with books! An entire library would be awesome, but something I could read over and over again would be okay too.

I am getting derailed this week

Oh my, no matter how I try to get on track I get knocked off.  That is ok, I am just picking myself back up.

Monday - I was supposed to run. But I had moved ALL the kids toys to the living room as, we were getting our carpets cleaned on Tuesday. Monday night stepped on a kid toy, broke it ad rolled my ankle. AWESOME!

Tuesday - I planned a rest day. I was insanely busy. I ended up getting home at 1AM Wednesday morning, going to bed and being woken up at 4AM with the baby barfing on me.  AWESOME!

Wednesday - I drank so much coffee my stomach should have wholes in it from all the acid. Didn't phase me. No workout, struggled through the day with a sick kiddo, very little sleep and half day for the big kid. AWESOME!

Thursday  - Today, it is Thursday and my list of shit to get done grows. On top of it all I have an event for my business (Snarky Posh) tonight in Marysville. That is an hour north of me. Which goes until 10PM. Then I get to come home and try to sleep, maybe, please kiddo feel better.

Basically, week 3 of C25K is a big fat FAILURE, but you know what it just means that I can start it again next week.



This won't derail me. Just take me on a little tangent. Getting back on track. Starting Friday, waiting Saturday okay Sunday at the latest.

Women of Wonder 5K

I signed up for this knowing I was unprepared. I had just started back on the couch to 5K program, but I felt if I didn't sign up I would go the rest of the year without running another event. I had already participated in the St. Patrick's Day Dash in Seattle in March and then nothing.

Of course, my kids decided to have the worst night of sleep ever. When I sent the big kid to bed, she came to tell me her sister had vomited in bed again! That's a whole different post, but we go got her cleaned up and back to bed by 11PM. She thankfully, slept until 5AM, but big sister had woken up not feeling well in-between then.  Little sister went back down at 5AM, but I had a hard time getting back to sleep. Just when I did the alarm went off.

I got up, got dressed and headed out the door. I stopped and got some coffee and a breakfast and headed to GreenLake for the event. After finding a place to park, getting my bib and using the bathrooms, I busted out my phone and wasted time. I have a problem of arriving early to things.

 
It has taken me 13 months after having Ms. Jillian to sign up for a race. A race that I call my starting over point. I knew I wasn't ready in fact, I used the couch to 5K program to help me get through this, run/walk intervals the entire time. I really worked on pushing my run and walking on the walk parts. In the past, I would speed walk and not let my legs recover. Today, I focused on walking...and then really running in the run part. Sadly, I had to restart the program at one point because I wasn't done when the program ended. It's okay though. This is my starting point. My time was 46:33, 10 minutes slower then my PR from 2012 on pretty much the same course.

 
At the end of the day, I finished I collected my medal and I felt pretty good. I don't feel like I killed myself, but I am proud of my accomplishment.  My next 5K is a month away, so it gives me time to work through the program and hopefully improve on my time.
 
Overall, this event was great. It was their second year running the event after the Iron Girl program switched from a 5K/10K in Seattle to a Tri. It gave Promotion Events and easy slot to fill and I am glad they did. I look forward to doing it again next year.

Last week I had a plan that ended in a 5K, I can say I participated in my first 5K alone since the baby. Yes, I know technically she is considered a toddler since she is 13 months, but she is still a baby to me.  Recap of the 5K tomorrow.

Sunday Funday

With that, I am going to try to make one day a week about a fun exercise and write about it on my Sunday Funday.  There are things I have wanted to try and I said I would, time to search Groupon and find some FUN ways to get some fitness in.

"Faux" Potato Soup

It has cooled down a bit in our area. It is still lovely outside, but it is cooler in the AM. It makes me want soup. I emailed my friend yesterday for the millionth time for her Mock Potato Soup recipe. I ran to the store and picked up everything to make it when the big kid was home from school and the baby napped.

True blogger style, I forgot to take any photos of the preparation process. In all honestly, I thought I would botch it somehow and never want to post about it. I did make a few tweaks because I have problems following a recipe. :)  

MOCK POTATO SOUP
1 medium cauliflower, cut into small chunks, about 20 ounces after trimming
1 small onion, diced, 2 1/2 ounces
3 cups chicken broth
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
Salt and pepper, to taste
4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded (pre-shredded not recommended)
3 pieces bacon, fried until crisp and crumbled, optional
2 green onions, chopped, optional
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

In a large dutch oven, bring the cauliflower, onion and broth to a boil. Cover and simmer until the cauliflower is very tender, about 20-25 minutes. Use a stick blender to puree the soup until completely smooth and thick. Add the butter and cream; mix well. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the cheese; heat very slowly until melted. Garnish with bacon, green onion and parsley.



And here is how I made it:
In a large pan cook bacon (I used the whole pack) and onion. I sliced everything up and sautéed it in the pan.  Once cooked, I added the broth and cauliflower and cooked until tender.  I don't have a stick blender so I used my mixer and mixed it up until kind of, not really smooth.  Added the butter and cream and mix. Salt and pepper to taste and garnished with cheese.  My high quality photo of my food! It actually was really good and will be my lunch the rest of the week.


Makes about 6 cups or 6 big servings
Can be frozen without the toppings


Original stats Per Serving: 263 Calories; 22g Fat; 11g Protein; 7g Carbohydrate; 3g Dietary Fiber; 4g Net Carbs  (My stats were slightly higher since I used ALL the center cut bacon and not just a little)


Overall I really liked it and look forward to making it again this fall.

One more day, one more day

I know so many kids are back to school, but we don't go back until Wednesday. Today is meet the teacher day the big kid is going into 2nd grade and is excited to get back to school. I think she is more excited to see her friends then she is to actually go to school. This summer she had a fear because she said that "someone told her they cover the clock", "so I have to learn to tell time". We worked on I and she can now tell time on a analog clock and I think she feels confident to start school.

After we meet the teacher we are heading to the mall, why you ask, to stand in line at the Lego store for a free toy. :) I know I am the worlds best mom. LOL  I figure, big kid feels left out a lot so any thing I can do to raise her spirits.  I am already behind on my schedule, this holiday weekend really messed me up. I sat down last night and realized it was Monday and I didn't work out. D'oh!

Today, I will get in my couch to 5K and add a little strength routine in afterwards. Keep it light but get it done.

Weekend Update and September Goals

What else was I up to this weekend...I mentioned I donated blood and I have officially donated 2 gallons. That sounds so creepy, but being O - I get called frequently to donate.
 

 
 

Before I went to donate blood I chopped a few inches off my hair. It was time, I was so over the ponytail, high messy bun. So I did it. Plus, it gave me a couple hours kid free. I joked with the stylist that donating blood was amazing kid free time. Like a field trip for mom. Ahh, its the little things.

Saturday Product Spot Light - It's a Psoh Life



I am in love with the scent of 4 of our new products.   A bright, clean lemon raspberry smell that is just heavenly. We now carry a coconut oil, shave cream, body wash and body powder.
 

I have had a chance to try the body powder already and have other's on the way. I will say I love it. I love the smell and I look forward to using it after I shower or for a quick pick me up post workout.

It's Friday already!

After the week I have had, I feel like that is a self high five for surviving it.  I started this post, earlier today and I am finally getting back to finishing it.

I started the couch to 5K again!  I have a friend who is doing it also, so we are calling each other out on FB when we complete our runs. We figure it will help motivate us to keep going. :)

As we go into the holiday weekend, I have no plans. I do want to get out and be active with the family. I talked to my seven year old and if the weather is cool we are going to try and do a small hike today.  Which, didn't happen! It is noon and we are still at home, the baby naps and we did some house cleaning.

Saturday I am going to complete week 1 of the couch to 5K and weather permitting we will go boating. But as usual, Washington weather is calling for 50% chance of rain. That can mean anything. Maybe, I should just schedule an appointment at the salon. I really need to get my hair cut. I am so over the current length.

Sunday, I would love to do some sort of family activity. We shall see what the weather does it has been cooling off which I know most PNWer's are happy about, but it makes me sad. I am not ready for fall.

Monday, I think by Monday my husband will be ready to head back to work and the big kid ready for school.  While we have a great time together as a family, when we just roam around the house in a random fashion (like this post), we get on each other's nerves.

I am excited for September to start, I am working on my September goals today and will have them posted on Monday. One bonus about fall weather, it does make running much more enjoyable.

Today is Wednesday....right?

Tuesday was spent in a daze to fully understand I need to rewind to Monday night about 11PM.  I went up to bed and checked on the little one.  She had vomited in her bed and was asleep in it.  This required waking her up, showering her while the husband cleaned it all up.  By the time we were ready to put her back to bed it was midnight and she decided it was play time.

 Around 2AM, I got her asleep in our bed. Between the kicks, head-butts and occasionally crying when the alarm went of at 6:15 I was a mess. I jumped in the shower to get to the dentist by 7AM. Thankfully, it was just an easy cleaning. Is it bad when that is the easiest part of my day.  Rushed home, husband went to work and started on house work.

10AM baby goes down for  nap. I have some time to sit and relax, job hunt, Facebook and all other things internet until the little wakes up at noon. Make all of us lunch, eat, clean up and then we are off to run errands.

To the big kids school to drop off paper work, library and Target  At Target I decided to get some curtains. We have had these vertical blinds that I wanted to replace FOREVER, like since we move into our house 11 years ago.  Back home, get all the tools. Take down one set of vertical blinds. Install curtain rod and find out it is to big...huh it was supposed to be adjustable, I can't figure it out.

Back to Target! Replace the curtain rod with a smaller one. Back home, put baby down for second nap, go to put curtain rod up and realize it is to small! WTF! Get out tape measure and realize the first one should have worked. sigh!  Call the husband and ask him to pick one up for me, he says we will go later.

4:30PM husband gets home, baby wakes up from nap and we decide on dinner. Make dinner, feed all four of us, empty dishwasher, load dishwasher.  Remove vertical blinds from front slider as the husband agrees to replace them also, YAY! Head to Target. Get two new curtain rods one for back slider and one for front slider. Note, I measured the back slider so I knew the size.

Leave Target, got to McDonalds and get a dipped cone, head home. Go to install curtain rod on front slider and it is to SMALL! D'oh the front slider is bigger then the back slider. Thankfully, the husband is able to get the curtains up on the back slider. I was not going back to Target again, that will happen today.

Get baby to bed, sit down to relax on my computer and see a friend post that she started the C25K again. I hang my head in shame and know that I need to run. I am exhausted but I can't skip a day when I just started again. Drag my but upstairs at 8:45PM and get changed, head to the garage and run for 30 minutes following my app!

Come back upstairs to find the baby awake! Get the baby back in bed, sit down on Facebook for a few then realize it is 10:30PM and head to bed.

Three Things Tuesday (doesn't have the same ring)

1. Why oh why, did I schedule my dentist appointment for 7am! I must have been crazy! I hope they don't mind if I go in my PJs, kidding - only kind of. I seriously have to rethink my scheduling of appointments.

2. I did weights yesterday and realized I had no plan going into it. While I put weight train on the schedule I didn't say what. I am going to need to rethink that for Wednesday. 

3. Speaking of Wednesday, I have my fist in person interview. Which means most of Monday was spent going through my clothing trying on stuff! Nothing fits! I was able to pull together about  4 different looks to pick from but I am not happy with any of them. Oh well, more motivation.

Weekend Update

We had a very eventful weekend! Very little actually exercise was completed. That should say no planned workouts were completed.

Saturday we went boating! The weather is to nice to pass it up.  The big kid and he husband did some wake surfing. It was her first time up!

 
It was a blast and while no formal workout we did lots of swimming. The bad part of the boat is the eating. I packed a good turkey sandwich with avocado and a large water, but caught myself snacking on the kids pretzels.
 
Sunday, was my husbands birthday. We went to Seattle to watch the Red Bull Box Car races. It was a blast, but ended up leaving early because it was just to hot for the kiddos.  This consisted of lots of walking, and holding the almost 20lb little kiddo in the carrier.  I think I have a new favorite photo though!  My hubby and the girls.
 
 
So with no formal workouts why I am so sore. Either way, I sat down last night and wrote out a plan for the week.
 
Monday: Weights
Tuesday: Run 20  min
Wednesday: Weights
Thursday: Run 30 minutes
Friday: Rest or Pilates
Saturday Run 45 min
Sunday: Rest
 
I am hoping having a plan in place, written down will help me get back on track.

Weekend Update

Random list of updates:

  • Friday after trying to force myself to workout, after being so proud that I did something on the days I was sick I broke my workout streak. It ended and I feel okay about it. I am proud that I did it, but it was started to make me not enjoy working out. I was more concerned with fitting it in the getting a good workout.
  • I updated my races I want to do in the next few months in the side bar. I am sure I will have a post about them and why I picked them soon. One of them, is it is all about the bling.
  • I looked up half marathon plans this weekend. Ummm...what. I am considering the Seattle Half Marathon in November. I don't know why, its crazy lofty goal, but I feel like I need that right now.
  • I might not have worked out officially on Saturday, but I spent 5 hours at the zoo with the family. Followed by an hour at my kiddos school watering the pumpkins for the future second graders.  Wow, crap my big kid is going into second grade in a couple of weeks! Where did the time go.

Five Things Friday

1. I am alive, I know you all missed me the past few days. The workout streak is alive also, but just barely. Tuesday's workout was 20 minutes or more of chasing the kids around at the park. Followed by Tuesday evening coming down with something. Where I was insanely hot/sweating and everyone else was normal. No temperature, but I was just dripping in sweat and exhausted. I went to bed early and woke up and had to change the sheets I was sweating so much. My husband even joked he was afraid I was turning into a zombie. It was bad.  Wednesday, was a better. My workout consisted of walking in place, arm punches and various other easy items,  while watching Extreme Weight Loss.  Thursday almost back to normal - I did my weight loss Pilates DVD.

2. Speaking of Extreme Weight Loss, did you watch this weeks. Chris drove me bonkers trying to discourage the contestant from doing a full marathon. While, I agree it probably wasn't the best for her body type and size. Give it a break after she has started. He asked her almost every mile up to 13.1 if she wanted to do the half. It pissed me off and it wasn't even me. I understand he wanted her not to get hurt, but enough is enough.

3. This weeks weight is the same. No gain, no loss since I stopped the Personal Trainer Food plan. This is good. I am actually changing my official weigh in day to Monday as that is when I weigh in for my other group. So we shall see if I am down at all on Monday.

4. Job hunting is no fun. I told my husband I would go back to work in September, after over a year off, but I don't want to. Plus, employers really want to low ball you.  Oh, well still looking. Have a few bites, we shall see.

5. It is Friday!! I am happy for Friday even if I don't work during the week, it means that my husband will be home and I will have some help in wrangling the kiddos. Which after this week I need. I still feel a little under the weather and hope to be back a 100% soon.

Hot mama!



Yesterday, was the hottest day for Washington (Western Side) when we hit 96 degrees and a new record.  What is funny is most PNWer are complaining about it being to damn hot. I am hot, but I don't want it to go away. I will be sad when fall arrives.

My neighbor is from Texas and she is complaining. She said she moved her because it is cooler!  I love it, even if I had to talk myself into working out at 9:30 PM last night because my garage finally cooled to 82 degrees.

Weekend Update

On Saturday we took a few hours and went out on our boat. The big kiddo and I decided that we would do laps around the boat while swimming. She decided we would do 10 laps. After about 5, she gave up but I decided to continue. 

After the swim, I added up the distance. We figured it was 50 feet around the entire boat (21.5, each side, 6ft across the back and less across the front). 50 feet x 10 laps = 500 feet. I was like wow, until I remember most people swim in yards. So, while I was proud of my 10 laps it was only 166 yards, which isn't much at all. Maybe next time we will go for 20 laps.

Speaking of that, how do people train in open water? How do you measure your distance. Is there some fancy watch that does that.  The husband and I were talking, and thinking maybe a Sprint Tri - or mini Tri next year, whatever the shortest distance is. I looked up some and it said 400 yard swim. I live by a lake, so as long as I do it in a warm month, I have somewhere to swim.

I would have to buy a bike, and I can do the run, albeit SLOW, but I could do it. Really, the swimming is what frightens me the most.

For now, I am still on the fence. It has always been in the back of my head to try a tri. We shall see. For now I am thinking of doing the Women of Wonder 5K on Sept 7th. But, I am scared. I don't know why. I would have signed up in a heart beat before Jillian was born.  I need to get over it and just sign up.  We will see if I will get it done this week.

A little fall shopping

I hate shopping. I know something is wrong with me, but whenever I go I get stressed out about finding something or find nothing. It could just be. I am just not happy with how things look so I give up really easy.

One thing I do like to do is shop online. No dressing rooms, no pushy sales people. I can just take my time and find what I want.  I have been doing a lot of fall shopping at Online Shoes.  Here are a few items that are in my wish list. I can't pull the trigger yet, the weather is just to nice.

I like gray things, back off! LOL I think this year I am going to splurge and buy some real UGGS. I have gone through enough pairs of knock offs, time for the real thing.

It is not gray! But it comes in that color! I am torn between the vest and the full coat, on this one. I am thinking the coat.
 
When do you start fall shopping?  Do you find yourself wearing the same fall winter staples over the years? I used to be like that but I got ride of a bunch of my coats two years ago and never replaced them. Her is hoping this years weight loss will bring new clothing.

Quick Pro's and Con list:

Would I do it again: Yes, but I wouldn't do months back to back.  Maybe doing it every other month or every two months would be perfect. I way to keep you me on track.  I would not order breakfast if I did it again, I would make my own. That is the easiest meal for me to make good choices.

Day 28!

WOW! I am so happy I had the opportunity to try the Personal Trainer Food program. I have said it many times that it has really helped to make me aware of what I was eating.  I have big goals going forward so I will share them today and then tomorrow after my final weigh in I will recap the program.

Short Term Goals:
1. Focus on 10lbs weight loss a month. I know that may sound high to some, but I am a larger girl, I got plenty to spare. That would only be 2lbs a week and that is totally doable if I continue to eat properly.

2. Sign up for  a 5K in September. I need to sign up that way I have the motivation to keep going.

3. Follow the plan set forth by Personal Trainer Food of meat, eggs and veggies. Limiting foods to less then 10% of my daily intake to continue to have the results I want to see.

Long Term Goals:
1. Lose 50+lbs, ultimately I would like to lose around 70-80 and I think that would put me in a great spot be able to maintain.

2. Continue the eating trend, get the family eating more healthy meals and less starch foods and white bread. That will be the hard one. My family is those people you love to hate, skinny and healthy and eat whatever they want.

3. Run a half marathon again. Maybe not in 2014, but definitely in 2015.

So there they are my new set of goals, a plan to move forward and continue on this trend. To help with my first short term goal I have signed up on a diet bet with a group of Mom's that I am friends with. We all put $25 in a pot and will split it at the end. First goal, getting my money back.

A little fun

Yesterday, we had to go to my youngest one year check up! She was healthy and growing on track.
The point of telling you that is it was in the same town as the Lego store.

Did you know that the first Tuesday of every month the Lego store has a build day for kids 6-14. The first 250 kids get a free Lego thing to build in the store and take home. My oldest was super excited when I told her we could go. We arrived at the mall at 3PM, the build started at 5PM. When we got there, there we about 10 people in line, with blankets spread out ready to be there.

We decided to walk around the mall a bit and then headed back to get in line at 4PM. At this point, I would say we were 20-30 kids back. It was hard to tell as seriously, you would think it was a Black Friday sale, that is how much people were spread out.

The let about 20 kids in at a time to build with a Lego employee, so it took us a while to get in. We were handed a packet and went in. I let the big kid run do it on her own while I chased the other one around the store. She was excite to take her monkey home, which she named Julie.


I was thankful it was over, my back was hurting from standing so long. Now I see why people bring chairs and snacks. :)

Shark Week

Not the good kind of shark week on discovery channel, but the bad kind. If you are a guy you might want to stop reading. Of course, I don't think I have any dudes who read my blog.

I hate shark week, but doesn't everyone. Anyways, I had to run to the store for the surprise appearance of my little friend and I picked up a Clean Eating magazine.


See the weight I have lost on this Personal Trainer Food Program, I don't want coming back.  I don't want to do another month on it right now, maybe in the fall. For now, I need to take the lessons I have learned from this and go forward and continue losing.  Meat, Veggies and eggs - that is not hard. I can do that. I have done it successfully for almost a month today is day 26. 

One thing I can not wait to bring back is coffee w/ vanilla soy creamer or just soy milk for that matter. That is how I like my coffee, I gave up dairy for when I was nursing, and it just doesn't taste the same. I have learned through this experience I don't NEED coffee in the morning. I enjoy it. Its a ritual, I like drinking something warm. I have tried tea many times and it just doesn't work for me. I will continue the plan almost they have at 90% and allow a few things back. For a few days I will continue to share my food on my twitter account, just to help keep me accountable.  Check back Friday for my final weigh in and final thoughts on the program. I might even do a vlog again, getting all fancy and stuff.

Any good recommendation for magazines or cook books? It has to be simple as I am a bad cook otherwise.

Weekend Update

This weekend brought a the final celebration of the birthday for my girlies. The weather was less the cooperative.  It was sunny, it rained, it was sunny, it hailed, it was sunny, you get the picture. When we arrived at 1PM it was 72 and by the time we left at 4PM it was 80 degrees. Oh, the Pacific Northwest weather so moody.

It was  small event, nothing to overwhelming with lots of fun and good food!

I know I haven't lost a lot, but one of the first pictures in a while, that I didn't hate. I liked it so much I made it my profile photo on Facebook. Always proof that you don't hate a photo.

Cupcakes for the big kiddo and a special cake for the little one of course.


 
I am glad, now I get a couple of weeks off from celebrations until my husbands at the end of the month. :)  
 
In other news, I completed day 35 of at least 20 minutes of fitness a day. I also ran a little last night, not much only 1.25 miles but my back didn't hurt, so that means the week off of rest was the right thing. Time to work back up.  I also completed day 24 on my Personal Trainer Food program.  I have lots of insight on that, and will follow that up in a couple more posts of course.

Week 3 Update - PTF

I have completed the third week of the Personal Trainer Food 28 day program.  This week was tough as I had a lot going on. Starting on Sunday, I was a 5K all morning, followed by an afternoon of celebrating July birthday's in the family. Then Wednesday, we headed to Great Wolf for 24 hours of fun! 
 
I was able to succeed by packing my food. I didn't end up eating it all, but knowing I had no excuse made me pick good options when we ate out. Plus, so many place will replace French fries with steamed veggies or salad if you just ask.  I got some extra exercise in by climbing the million stairs to the water slides, and on Thursday there was hardly any line, so we would finish the slide and race back up. I was worried about my results though, as Great Wolf is warm. The water park is kept at 84 degrees, and you forget to drink water. I was thankful, that it didn't impact my weeks weight loss to much. 

Results:
Week 1: 8.2lbs
Week 2: 2.2lbs
Week 3: 3lbs
Total Weight Lost 13.4
