Random Question Thursday

Like most women who announce they are pregnant, you instantly start getting lots of interesting questions. I for one laugh at them, but many pregnant women find them rude or intrusive. Here are some of the fun questions we have have been asked:

Was this planned? This questions should be avoided. Because at the end of the day does it really matter.  Yes our child was planned.

An even better version of the above questions is Did you want to get pregnant? Yes, we did. If we didn't we would take measure to make sure it didn't happen. Of course even if this baby was a surprise do you think I or anyone else is going to say no. :)

How long were you trying? Seriously, you want to know how long we were doing the deed?  Yes, we have been asked this.

Were you really sick at the 3-day? Yes, I was really sick. I didn't know at the time I was pregnant. In fact, were were pretty sure we wouldn't get pregnant in November because I was out of town for the 3-day walk.

Do you want a boy or a girl? Well, I would love a healthy baby. With our first we really wanted a boy and had a girl. Would I change that, heck now I have an amazing little girl. Now, for us a girl would be easier as we know what to do, but a boy would still be great.

When are you due? This is a pretty common question and I don't think it is out of line at all. Our due date is August 8th. However, I will be having a c/s again this time due to my hips being pinned together from breaking my pelvic bone when I was 18. I had the option last time to have a regular birth but opted for the c/s when they told me one of the major risks would be breaking my pelvic again. Breaking that once is enough for me. This will make my due date any time between the August 1st and the 8th.  With my first I had issues with pre-e at the end, which ended with her being two weeks early, crossing my fingers that I can keep everything under control this time.

That is all of the questions I can think of right now. Have you been asked any crazy questions about pregnancy?

  2. Aw, sorry if you thought my question was out of line! I was half kidding, remembering how sick you were, and thinking about mamas who come back and say things like "now I know why I was so sick!".

    1. Ha! I was not offended in anyway, but trust me you were not the only one who asked. :)

  3. I couldn't stand people touching my stomach had one girl who would just come and rub it and I was nice but it drove me nuts. I didn't mind the questions so much when pregnant as the ones after you decide not to have any more children those hurt the worst.

  4. I didn't realize I was pregnant until I was 2 1/2 months. Everyone was really offensive about how could I not know I was pregnant and they wouldn't drop it. I always had to go into detail about how I was never regular, I got sick, went to the doctor, the prego test said negative...etc, etc.

    Forgive me people!

    1. OMG how did you not know! Kidding! I know someone who was almost 5 months, she was small to begin with so her period was wonky. She though she was just getting a beer belly!

  5. Funny...but yes, I have heard all of those when I was pregnant too...never thought much of them really. ;-)

Here comes another weird question though....I can't imagine running with pinned hips? Does that feel any different? Hurt in different ways ever? I don't have any pins in me (yet) but I swear I have a form of arthritis b/c my knees get sore hours before and during a rainstorm. ;-)

I would be on constant meds if I lived in Seattle.

    1. I actually don't notice it, but it has been like that for so long. I had to go through PT after my accident to learn to walk right though so I was just trained this way. the only time it bothers me is when I get really tierd I tend to limp.

  6. Hey! I just found your blog and wanted to say congrats. I'm due June 4th so I'm loving finding new blogs about fit moms-to-be! :)

Your questions cracked me up. I got most of them. Especially the "were you trying". I just shake my head. Now that I'm showing more, people are all about the "when are you due" and "do you know if it's a boy or girl". Once I answer those, it's usually, "name?". :)

  7. I haven't been asked crazy questions so much as told crazy things... without me even prompting the person to say anything. I mean, a complete stranger in the grocery store warning me not to let them give me an episiotomy- that if "it" tears, it's "not that bad". I mean, it was all I could do not to ask, "Are you for real??"

  8. "Were you trying" is a pretty rude question, I don't remember being asked that, maybe people are getting more rude?

  9. not sure why, but for some reason I can go a week or 2 without getting any updates on your blog posts in google reader, then BAM they all show up at once. First and for most congrats on pregnancy!! I can't believe some of those questions you're asked. I think manners have gotten worse from a whole with the American population, but at least you didn't put that anyone started poking you or anything
