Year in Review

We still have a little time left in the year, but I have no plans - so I feel like its safe to review my year.  I started the year strong with two new PRs for me in a 5K and the St. Patricks Day Dash. After that my goal was to get a half PR, but it never happened and I ended up just having fun during my halfs.

When I changed my attitude and took away the time pressure, I started to enjoy running again and having a blast.  In August, I started running 5Ks with Julie's daughter and we were able to shave 3 minutes off her 5K time by December. 

This year I experienced a Foam (semi mud run) and the Color Run for the first time. I would do a Color Run again in a heartbeat, the foam run - I am iffy on. With the right team of friends and maybe a flask along the way I could be talked into it.  My big goal for 2012 was the 3-day cancer walk, while I didn't accomplish all of the miles it was a once in a lifetime experience I would recommend it to anyone interested.

2012 was a great year for me fitness wise - I accomplished a lot in 11 months of running (no races in January).  Who knows what 2013 will bring me, but I hope it will be as fun as 2012.

Almost a week

Sometimes life just gets in the way and blogging is the last thing you want to do.

I have not been feeling to well for the past week. I feel like I am fighting a bug, but not fully sick. Which sucks as I feel like I still have to go to work and do everything instead of just laying around. One thing that have been skipping is my workouts. By the time 8PM comes along, I am exhausted. Finally last night I made myself go to the garage and workout before bed.

I got on the Spin bike and did a short ride and then added in some arm work. My goal is get more then one workout a week in, but I need to kick this lingering bug first.

Christmas is just a week away! Are you ready? I have just a few more things to pick up, but plan to knock it all out on Friday. Then one last trip to Costco on Sunday, yes I know I am crazy - but then I am ready.

1. I am looking for a 5K in January. I don't want jump in a cold lake and I don't want to run on New Years day, if you are local and have any suggestions let me know

2. In February I plan to run the Love 'em or Leave 'em Valentines Day 5K, but yesterday I was looking on Zozi.com and I found this event Cupids Undie run that is a 1.5 mile run in your undies. I shared it with my husband and we are considering it  - it is only $15 if you follow the link and buy through zozi.

3. For March I plan to run the St. Patricks Day Dash, the course sucks on this event, but I still really enjoy it. I also want to do the Hot Chocolate 5K because the swag looks awesome.

Christmas Rush 5K

Friday night I was texting Julie saying "if it is raining in the morning I am not running". Turns out it was cold and beautiful instead.  I got up and cursed when it wasn't raining. I really wanted to stay home. Instead I ate a bowl of fruity Cheerios and headed out the door. I wasn't expecting much of the Christmas Rush 5K as I only paid $10, but was surprised at there set up, it was very well organized. I ran into Nicole within a few minutes, she was actually screaming at her friend in the parking lot behind me. We walked together to get our bibs, after that I lost them. But ran into Kerrie while waiting for the race to start with Julie and her kids.

The outfit was simple - my trusty Nike DriFit coat...I love this thing, SparkleSkirt, Zensah base layer leggings, and my Asics 2160. I had originally planned to wear a red Team-Sparkle skirt but while I was looking for it I saw my blue skirt that arrived last month and I have not had a chance to wear.

The race started on time and according to out chip time vs gun time it took us almost 3 minutes to cross the starting line. There was a lot of people at this event, many with kids of all ages. Alli and I started on our way, while Julie walked with her youngest and her other son ran in front of us. Alli's goal was 46 minutes, I didn't have my watch so my goal was to just encourage her to run more then we walk. She awesome. At first I let her pick our first walk breaks. After the first mile, I started picking them and challenging her to run just a little farther then she thought she could. The course was flat and a little crowded in places, but a great place for a PR. We crossed the finish line to it saying 59 something. We knew that time was for the 10K start, so we subtracted 10 minutes and knew that we were close to her PR. I had to leave soon after Julie arrived with her youngest so I didn't get to find out our final time until later int he evening. When I looked it up I was beyond excited to see my time was 46:02 and Alli's was 46:01! She hit her goal almost right on the nose!!!
 
This was my last race of 2012 - making it 16 events for the year (not including any virtual races). A great way to close out 2012!

Today let's remember the 2,390 Military Members and 49 civilians who lost their lives  Dec. 7th 1941.  Thank you to all the men and women in our U.S. Military and to the families!

TripleT


One:
Monday I got a short run in following the C25K program, and then I jumped on my Spin bike for 15 minutes. I forgot how much I missed spin, until I got back on the bike on Tuesday. Ouchie! I know I will get used to it. After my ride on Tuesday I decided to do some leg work and I started getting a pain on my inner thigh. The same pain I had last week after yoga. I took yesterday off to give my leg a rest, I don't want to injury myself.

Two:
Some days I am lucky enough to work from home. Yesterday, I worked from home which was perfect because a bunch of packages arrived. When I was done working I quickly wrapped them and put all the boxes in the recycle before anyone came home.

This is why I usually don't race in December and  yet I have a 5K for fun on Saturday. The forecast is looking better for Saturday the any other day though, so maybe that's a win.  If you remember any of my weather posts, this is pretty much what it always looks like. :)

Bring on the holidays

This weekend was a lazy weekend for us. Not to say that we didn't get a lot of things done, just I didn't do a single workout. Getting back into the swing of things is tougher then I thought. Many times I said "I am going to go workout", but continued to sit on the couch or do something else.

I did finally get a picture of our tree this weekend. We seem to be the only ones in our 4-plex that didn't put it right in front of the window. My lovely child decided to photo bomb my picture.


I also accomplished completing 90% of my Christmas shopping.  I think this is a record for me. I am usually a last minute shopper. I have just 2 more people to purchase for excluding my husband and daughter. We also got all of our Christmas cards out this year. Which took some effort as I skipped our standard photo card that doesn't require me to write anything and went traditional. A basic cards that required a personalized message. All cards have been mailed except one. There always seems to be one person who's address you just can't find, not to bad since I send out just under 50 cards each year.
