The rain has cleared

But my treadmill was near. The rain has stopped for a few hours, but I just don't have it in me to run outside tonight. I know that I should have but I am a wimp! I need to live in a warmer state - I love the heat. I love the rare heat waves that we get where everyone else is complaining I am baking cookies and enjoying the warmth for the short period of time that we have it.

Today the plan called for 5 miles, well yesterday the plan called for 5 miles - but unexpected events kept me from working out. However today I did my best to knock it out, I didn't feel like I hit my stride until 3 miles, then the last two miles felt good.

Time - 60 minutes
Pace - 11:26

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for many things! One of them being family and friends – I am thankful for all the positive feedback I received after yesterday’s post.
Some of the comments that stood out to me and really hit home and even brought tears to my eyes:

I never thought you could do a half marathon and look at you now! We are doing it together! I couldn't be more proud of you. What that counter doesn't say is that you’re doing it when so many others aren't or have given up. Think about that the next time you look at that counter.

I can't wait for the day that Evie is an adult and tells you how much she admires you and how proud she is of you.

You are a great motivator and I always look to you for inspiration.

To my wonderful and loving family and friends thank you for your support and thank you for inspiring me to do better. As I run this week I will be remember all your positive support, so THANK YOU!

Remembering

Every day when I log into my Bodybugg program I see how many weeks I have been on the program. At first it was a motivator, I have been on the program X number of weeks and lost XX number of pounds. Then last year had a rough year weight wise. Gaining and losing the same 15lbs several times.  When 2011 hit I decided to leave that all behind and just start a new year and a new weight loss goal.  The past few weeks I noticed the week counter on the BodyBugg again and it was getting closer to reaching my 2 year mark of focusing on wieght loss. This week it said:


Two Years! Well longer then two years I have been working at this since Evie was born. I have been struggling but I keep moving forward no matter how slow the process is. I have to trust that if I am doing everything right the weight will come off.

A couple days ago some photos were cycling through our computer screen and some photos came up from Evie's first birthday. I wish I could delete all the photos that I am in, but instead of that I need to look at them and see how far I have come. I can't believe I am going to post this - this is so embrassing. The photo is from my daughters first birthday. I reallly want to delete this photo, but maybe instead I should hang it on my fridge to remind myself that I never want to go back to that. I want to be able to keep up with my child as she gets older. I want to be an active parent in her life and at the weight I was I was limiting my options.

I can't think of a better way to work off all that Easter candy. Really whose idea was to have Easter so far away from Valentines day this year and have the candy out for so long. My favorite Easter candy is the Cadbury Mini Eggs! Love them! I have only had one small pack this year, but every time I am at the store I just stare at them and drool!

Middle toe pain

Tonight I picked Sean up from work to go look at a car. We are looking for a used VW Touareg, this one just didn't meet our needs. Because of our attempt to get a new car we didn't get home until late. I decided to cut my 3 mile recovery run short and run 2 miles on the treadmill and follow it up with lunges, squats and knee lifts. After my workout out I took off my sock and realized how bad my middle tow on my right foot hurts! There is a small blister on the end of it, but I feel like my toe nail is about to start bleeding at any minute. I am actually afraid to take the polish off to see what color it is underneath. I have had a black toenail in the past, but usually it was my second toe and not the middle toe.

Ok I think I might have just barfed a little in my mouth - I just looked up the cure for runner's toe:
  • All you need to do is insert a red-hot needle into the middle of your nail, and then push the blood right out of this place
eeeewwwwww..........that just sounds gross, maybe I can talk my husband in to doing it for me if the nail actually turns black. There is no way I can shove a red hot needle into my toe.

Week 7 HM Training has started

This morning I was reading through my blogs when I came upon Rose. All have to say is - I think I have an Internet crush! You had me at the blog title - Bacon is Always The Exception! I have never been a huge fan of the statement Nothing tastes as good as thing feels, but when you add except bacon it makes it a brilliant statement. Thanks for the laugh this morning Rose.

Here is my plan for Week 7 of Half Marathon Training:
  • Secure a sitter for Sunday so that Sean  and I can run our second 10 miles outside, rain or shine. 
  • Get in 3 more runs this week - 3, 5 & 6 milers
  • Get a Yoga session in one day this week
I am trying to keep it simple and stress free. Of course I will still focus on calorie intake because while I may have burned 1400 calories (according to my bodybugg) on my 10 mile run yesterday I did eat a lot afterwards. The longer the distance the stronger the craving for food through out the day.

10 miles done

I little glimmer of hope that I might survive a half. The plan was to go to the Seattle waterfront and run the 10 there - a  5 mile out and back run. The weather had another plans. It wouldn't have been such an issue but we had planned to push Evie in the stroller and she is just getting over being sick, we didn't think 2 hours in a damp stroller was the best idea. Instead I hit the treadmill with Netflix queued on Season 3 of Nip/Tuck off I went. At the 5 mile mark I was thankful I was on the treadmill as I could just run inside and hit the bathroom. Then back to the garage to finish! I used Shot Blok and water as fuel for the run and I am starting to really lke the Shot Bloks.

As soon as I finished my 10 MILES, I stepped outside and of course the sun was coming out and the rain had stopped. I think maybe next week we need to find a sitter for the little one and not hope that the weather man is wrong.

Uneventful couple of days

Friday I didn't get a workout in as planned, Saturday my plan called for 2 miles, before then 10 I have planned for Sunday.  I took off while Sean took Evie to ballet and ended up cutting it a little short. The start of my run is downhill and that is really hard on my knee. I ended up getting 1.66 miles in and Sean and are going to check out new route for our 10 tomorrow because the route we have planned has a lot of rolling hills in it and I am not sure my knee can handle the ups and down.

The fan part of today I received my first running skirt in the mail. A dear friend sent me a text and asked if she wanted to pick me up a Champion brand skirt for $4.24 on clearance at Target. I told her sure, send it it to me. I got it today and plan to wear it over my Lululemon capri's tomorrow. If it doesn't workout I can always slip it off during the run.

Weekly Weigh In

Oh Friday how I love thee, except for that little moment when I step on the scale. This morning I was down one more pound. I am excited about that becuase I haven't been getting as much cross training in, as I would like, so I was afraid that I would stay the same for a second week in a row.  Thankfully the scale moved down.

Running Self Checks

I usually give up on my running attempts about half way to my goal. This time I am trying to make it stick. Not only by documenting it in blog, but by signing up for events each month to have goals to reach.

In the past when I ran I would just give up  not because I was hurting or my lungs were burning but ......well I don't know because. I have started performing self checks when my mind wants to give up before my body does. Asking myself -

Do you legs hurt? No
Does your knee hurt? No
Can you breathe? Yes
Are you hydrated and fueled? Yes and Yes
Do you have more to give? YES

Then in my best TV trainer personality in my head I tell myself to Suck it up buttercup and keep moving. I am the one getting in the way of myself. Nothing is stopping me so keep going. Then I say my mantra BE STRONG, EMBRACE POWER. Say it, believe it, become it!  That is usually enough to keep one foot moving in front of the other and often helps me to pick up the pace a little.

Frozen Watermelon = AWESOME

On the way home my buglet fell asleep in the car, with Sean home this gave me the perfect time to jump on the treadmill. I asked him to take care of dinner for himself while I ran. He ordered pizza while I changed.

My date on the treadmill started out easy and as usual I had the Biggest Loser to keep me entertained. I knocked out my 5 miles in 57:32. When I was done Evie and Sean were watching a movie munching on some pizza. I stretched and  used my Active Wrap to ice my knee and then made the best smoothie ever!

A few weeks ago I cut up and froze a watermelon as it was a little soft and Evie wasn't going to eat it all before it went bad. I mixed coconut milk, protein powder, frozen watermelon and a few blueberries. All I can say is YUM! This is officially one of my favorites for the summer, heck of he spring.

Sick kid, no workout

My adorable little Genevieve "Evie" has not been feeling well. Which in turn makes for rough nights. What is it about a child that makes it near impossible for a mom to sleep. Every move or sound she makes wakes me up. She started getting a pretty bad cough over the weekend, and taking a nap each day should have been a sign to me that she was getting sick.

Monday we came home from work/daycare she just wanted to lay in my bed. I was able to get the occasional giggle out of her with the help of the Alvin an the Chipmunks DVD. But otherwise she was pretty miserable, so miserable that she was tossing and talking in her sleep all night Monday night keeping me awake. Eventually around 1AM I crawled into her twin bed and cuddle her until my alarm went off at 5:30AM Tuesday morning. 

Tuesday I had planned to get 5 miles in and the weather was perfect for a run, but after work the buglet needed more mommy time. I told Sean well after I get her to bed I will head to the gym and get my workout on. By 8:30PM I was exhausted and instead of hitting the gym I hit my pillow.   This morning I woke up feeling much better, but when the alarm went off at 4AM, I hit snooze several times. There went my morning workout. The plan now is after work to have Sean take care of dinner for him and Evie and for me to have a date with the treadmill and recorded TV. So I missed one cross training workout this week, not that big of deal I will get my 5 miles in today, 3 miles in tomorrow, rest on Friday, an easy 2 on Saturday and then the big 10 miler on Sunday. I am still scared for this, but I have a route picked out and keep telling myself that I can and will complete it.

Its supposed to be nice here for the next couple of days. Hopefully I can get a at least one run outside before Sunday. Are you having good weather in your area today?

Dear running book publishers

Dear Running Book Publishers,


Please make your books in e-format. As one of the millions of people who received a e-reader for Christmas, I am disappointed at the lack of running books in the e-reader format.


I received a Nook Color from my husband for Christmas and I love it. I love reading and as I get more into running I am enjoying reading books on the topic. The problem is every time I want to read a book I go to B&N or to my local digital library to look for the book in e-format and it does not exist yet!  Please consider adding these books to the digital realm so that they are easily accessible to e-book lovers.


For now I will continue to add them to my library wait list, but I really wish I could have just bought it online and started reading it NOW!

Chocolate with Sea Salt - yum

After picking up my little one from daycare, she was coughing and wanting to cuddle and I wasn't in the mood to workout. I had the perfect excuse to just lay in bed the rest of the night.  After some cuddling and making her chicken noodle soup I decided I needed to workout. I really didn't want to. I kind of made up my cross training workout. I walked on the treadmill for .25 of a mile, then jumped off and did 25 push ups, back on the treadmill for another .25 of a mile, then off for some squats, rinse and repeat. I did .25 of a mile then did some form of strength. All I really wanted to do was hop in bed instead of working out but I made myself do something.

As a reward had two pieces of Lindt Chocolate with Sea Salt!oh.mmm.gee it is so tasty.  I think having this is a reward that will get me motivated to workout when I am not in the mood.

Big week

Well, the week itself isn't big its that I have my first 10 miles planned for Sunday March 27th and I am scared. I have done 8 on a treadmill, but this is going to be 10 outside, providing the weather is not terrible. I don't like to run in the rain unless its a race day, I am a wimp. :) The weather forecast is calling for run on Sunday, but lets hope they are wrong. I do live in Washington and they are often wrong on the weather.

Here is my plan for the week to prep me for the 10.2 miles-

Sunday - 5 miles - done
Monday - Cross Train
Tuesday - 5 Miles
Wednesday - Cross Train
Thursday - 3 miles
Friday - Rest
Saturday - 2 miles
Sunday 10.2 miles - ekkk :)

I am currently on week 6 of my training, so almost half way done. As I review the rest of my schedule I see the farthest if has me running is 12 miles? I know there are two schools of thinking on. What are you thoughts? How do you train? Do you reach your full distance at least once before the race?

Weekend Update

We had a very busy weekend, which reminded me why I am thankful that I make Saturday my rest day. I am not sure how I would have managed to get even a short run in. We had ballet, then a 2 hour drive to a friends house for a birthday party and a 2  drive home - which just makes for a long day.

Today Sean and I planned to get up and run our 5 miles from 9AM-10AM, as we had afternoon plans to see the Cirque du Soleil. I woke up at about 7:30AM and asked he wanted to run this morning and he said no. I decided to head out anyways as it looked cold, dry and sunny - the perfect weather to run in. I did what I like to call the Tour de Issaquah - a 5 mile route from my house, down Front Street and circle back home. Its a nice flat route with a few stop lights, but this morning the drivers were extra nice waving me through the cross walks even if I insisted they go first. I tested out . a pair of shorts that I picked up on Friday and determined that they are not meant for running, or at least not for me. I need compression type shorts or pants otherwise I just feel to giggly.

After my run my knee felt like a 4 /5 on the pain level so I pulled out my Active Wrap and tried it for the first time.  I think I am going to like this as I am still able be mobile while icing my right knee.  I am not sure what part it is yet, my husband of course suggest I go to the doctor, but if icing is allowing me to stay running I will probably stick to that.

Weekly Weigh In

I forgot to weigh in this morning. To many things going on and last night I moved the scale so it was out of sight out of mind. I did however weigh in yesterday and I was the same, so I am calling this week the same. I try to not get disappointed when the scale does not move, but I remind myself I didn't gain so that is always a bonus. :)

In case you don't understand my title at the end of all Dora cartoons they do a song that goes:

That is what I feel like shouting from the roof tops since I completed my longest run to date 8 miles last night.  Time: 1:29:20 which put me at an 11:08 pace which is pretty quick for me. I am looking forward to running this distance outside to see if I can keep that pace.

Since my right knee has been bothering me a little as soon as I was done I applied a small ice pack to the area while I stretched. I am happy to say that this morning I have no knee pain! I am going to continue to ice right after a run to keep it from turning into an injury.  I am still waiting for the Active Wrap to arrive that I won in a giveaway, I can't wait to try that.

The plan for today is cross training - if my knee feels okay this evening I am going to do Jillian Michael's Shred it with weights DVD. That's always a fun one that doesn't take up a lot of time.

Inspiration

I love my child, what parent doesn't say that, but my daughter has such a way of making you feel special even when she doesn't mean it. Case in point, this morning we passed a Vitamin Shoppe, the same shop that my husband drives by every day with her on the way to daycare. I don't take her often, but when I do she always tells me that the women in the Vitamin Shoppe store window is me. 

Typically any photo anytime we see a photo of a female with dark hair she says "look mommy its you in the photo" - normally I say, "no that is not me". This morning when she said "look mommy its you" - I was feeling inspired by the women in the photo and said - "Yes Evie she does look like me" even if it was a little fib. I think I need to make an inspiration board and this photo will be on it. Anyone made an inspiration board before? What do you have on yours?

Kirkland Half Marathon

The route for the Kirkland Half Marathon May 8th has been posted on their Facebook page. I am scared, but I am happy I have the route because now I can set out to drive it and see what the course is like begin to mentally prepare myself.  For me it is all about my mental state, I am 90% sure the my body can survive, my mind not so sure about that. With 5 water stations I think I should be okay not to carry water, but I am still thinking about that one as I do tend to like my water.

With less then 2 months to go I am getting nerves, but that could also be because I plan to knock out 8 miles on the treadmill tomorrow and that just sounds dull. I wonder if I have anything good recorded to watch or maybe I will just have to queue up something on Netflix. What do you watch while on the treadmill?

The good news is my cross training workout is done - I rolled out of bed and completed the P90X KenpoX workout, added in some lunges and incline push ups. At least one thing went well today.

Monday already

Some days I wish I could work 4 - 10 hour shifts and then have a 3 day weekend. In reality I would really like to work 3-4 days a week and have more time off for the family. Oh and more time for training. I just don't know how people do it, especially Mom's who also work a full time job and have a commute. That is one thing I am thankful for is that I don't have a commute. However for the next couple of weeks I will have a tweak in my schedule making it seem like a commute as I will be on daycare drop off duty until we move Evie to a Preschool right next to my work. For the next couple of weeks I will most lose my 4-5PM time at the gym, but I am going to find a way to make it work out.

The plan for this week is to 3 runs in 4 miles, 8 miles and 5 miles for the half training. Getting 8 miles in on a week day is going to be tricky, but I have my sites set on Wednesday - here are my thoughts for this weeks training:

Sun - 4 miles - DONE
Mon - Cross Train (2.5 miles walk - done, and a DVD tonight)
Tue - Cross Train
Wed - 8 miles after work on the treadmill
Thur - Cross Train
Fri - 5 Miles
Saturday - Rest

I am being vague as we adjust to our new family schedule I am going to have to adjust my workouts. Off to check out the Gym Classes, maybe I can work one of those into my weekly cross training schedule. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

St. Patricks Day Dash

Today was the Seattle St. Patrick's Day Dash and it was raining as usual. The photo on the right was waiting  to reach the start line. I did take any other photos because it was raining so hard.

Now it wouldn't be so bad except that half the run is up hill.  I am happy to report that I set a PRd  for this race with 45:33. Not a speed demon, but I am happy with my results and improving my time by almost 2.5 minutes.

My Nike+ said the total distance was 3.96 miles.  The splits from the Nike+ are of course interesting, but I feel they are really not accurate because the last 1.96 miles were down hill.

Weekend planning

I love weekends.

I love weekends the best when I have nothing planned and I can just relax. This weekend we have a slightly busy weekend.

Tonight my schedule is to get the family feed and then get in my 5 mile tempo run on the treadmill. I  hope I have some good recorded TV to watch to make it go quickly.

Saturday we will be up bright an early Evie's ballet class at 9:15AM, I am still trying to remember why I signed her up for such an early class on Saturday morning. After that we have to head in to the City to pick our our race packets for the St. Patricks Day Dash. Which I am sure will be followed to a trip to Dicks.

Sunday is the race, oh and Sunday is daylight savings. So not fair! I mean I am already going to have to be up at 7AM, to be in Seattle at 7:30 to drop the little on off with the in laws, to then drive downtown, park and get to the starting line by 8:30AM. The good news is after the race my schedule is clear to relax and enjoy the rest of the day with the family. 

My training schedule calls for an 8 mile run on Sunday, but with a 4 mile race planned, I am not sure I will get the other 4 miles in. Would it be bad to switch my Sunday run - 8 miles, with my 4 mile run planned for Wednesday of next week? I guess we will see what the weekend brings and if I can get the extra 4 in later the day I will. I know it won't be the same as running 8 miles straight. Please wish good weather upon us. It looks like the rain might hold off until 10AM, I am hoping to be back in my car by then. So please Seattle, don't rain on my run.

Weekly Weigh In

Weekly Weigh In:  Down 1lb - slow and steady wins the race. I use a Bodybugg to aid in my weight loss.  I am currently on week 101 of owning the Bodybugg, even though I was trying to lose weight before then. Some days I look at the week number and get sad. Other days I remind myself that I am in this for the long haul and it doesn't matter how long I am at this as this is about a new lifestyle. A lifestyle that I want to keep forever. 

I have been doing a few thing different this week, my plan gives me a calorie range up to 1800 calories, this week I have been eating around 1600, and while at times it has been tough it hasn't been that bad. I try to follow a 20% Protien, 60% Carbs and 20% fat in my diet.  I have also been drinking regular coffee instead of my normal latte, while my regular latte is 90 calories, I get more coffee for less calories with coconut milk as my creamer and a little splenda. Not sure if it is directly related, but when I don't by coffee I don't have extra money to buy snacks at work on hand so that might really be what helped out this week.

Still waiting

Today we are supposed to have a repair person come look at our treadmill sometime between the hours of 1-5PM. We purchased our treadmill almost 2 years ago of Craigslist, we got a great price on it - however I think the person selling it to us should have kept it. Either way I we picked it up on a good deal. A few months ago it started squeaking really bad. I asked my brother what he thought, he used to do repairs for Life Fitness and he said, what brand, I said Nordic Track, he said chuck it! He might be an equipment snob. Either way all of a sudden the squeaking stopped, but the belt would slip a little when I ran. I figured it was my poor running form and my weight. Sean decided we should have it looked at since we have been using it for a while just to keep it running good.

So here I am.......its almost 3PM and I am still waiting. The repair man did call a while ago and said he will be here in a hour so I guess that is good. For the most part I feel like I have spent a waisted day waiting for him. I suppose I could have been productive, but I figured once I started something he would show up. Instead I choice to read. I am currently reading Mockingjay, the third book in the Hunger Games series, I have feeling I will be done with this one soon since I just started the series on Monday. I love good books. Do you have any book recommendations?

As for working out, I was hoping I could get a short run in after the repair person was here. I might have to leave that for tonight, we will see how the evening goes.

Dare I say

That my 4 mile run was easy today! The scheduled workout was Wednesday - 4 miles and Yoga. After work I came home and Sean and Evie were already home. I tend to want to skip workouts when they are home. Sean said so upstairs, get dressed and get on the treadmill - so I did just that. I had 4 miles planned and 2 hours of Biggest Loser DVR'd.  While my treadmill is in the garage, it did tend to heat up in there pretty quick today. I sweating buckets by the 2nd mile, but I just pushed through and before I knew it was over. I got off and actually felt it was easy. I never thought the day would come when I would say a 4 mile run was easy peasy. As for the yoga, I don't know if I will get it in tonight. We will see what the evening brings with the little nugget.

Fundraising

1998 my step mom was training to run the Honolulu Marathon. She was always a jogger/runner but it was a challenge for her to work up to this distance. Along the way she broke her big toe, as you can imagine this caused her to worry about her training. She was working with the Team in Training group and they suggested water jogging and biking to keep her endurance up. In November my dad and my step mom were hit by a drunk driver, a car accident that would eventually take her life in November of 2001. 

Team in Training was great  the told my Dad that if anyone wanted to run in her place in the years to come that the could, since she had reached her donation levels for the trip. Several years later my Dad decided that he wanted to run the Maui Marathon in honor of his wife. On March 18, 2001 my father running in  the 45-49 Male division completed his first Marathon in 5:28:29. Not only did he raise enough money through Team in Training, but he was able to move some of his donations to other team members.

Hello new world

Yesterday I decided to just skip my normal workout. My knee was still bothering me from my run on Sunday and overall I was tired.  Some days I think you need to just take a day off. Of course when I do I start to worry about my weight loss. While I am learning to become a runner, I am also focused on my weight loss. Which as any distance runner can tell you can be difficult because after a long run you are hungry! I mean hungry as in eat everything you see. My dad would call that the SEE-Food diet, yup a crony joke for you there. It has taken me a lot of practice to control my eating as soon as I am done with a run to not blow all my calories I just burned. My go to meal post run is a smoothie, I toss in some coconut milk, protein powder, frozen berries and a banana and I am good to go Sunday I even mixed in some Greek yogurt! It was delicious and helped fight the post run hunger. The smoothie did help wash down the giant sugar cookie also, but since my husband was eating piece of German Chocolate Cake, I figured one cookie was a perfect match to the smoothie.

The good part about weight loss - NEW CLOTHING!!! Years ago I read an article that was a good bye to Lane Bryant and all other Plus Size stores, I told myself when I read that article that I couldn't wait for the day to say that. I can comfortable say good bye to them now. I haven't shopped in one in at least 6 months, and I am even started shopping in what I like to call "Normal" stores like Banana Republic, or what I used to refer to as the skinny girl store and the store to get me bye until I reach my goal weight Target....but in the normal section. My husband will tell you that I have no desire to shop, and while I may act that way its not true. The problem is this whole new worlds is open to me and honestly I don't know what to pick! I often feel overwhelmed with all these options for clothing.

Week 4 - Half Training

3 Weeks down, 9 more to go! I can do this, I can do this. That is what I keep telling myself and I am sure will be a common post for the next 9 weeks. As each week ticks off I get more terrified for what I signed up for. Either way the fee's are paid and I want to do this, I think.

The plan for this week:
Sunday -  7 Miles (Done 1:30, outside and only 3 minutes slower then the treadmill last week)
Monday - 30 minutes elliptical, abs, lunges, push ups
Tuesday - 30 minutes treadmill, Shred it w/ weights
Wednesday - 4 miles and Yoga
Thursday - 40 minutes elliptical and Leg workout
Friday - 5 Miles (after 2 miles, run 4 x 2 minutes tempos)
Saturday - Rest

Weekend Update

Saturday was a scheduled rest day. We did spend some time working out our wallets at Costco this weekend. I am now a proud owner of a KUERIG and I am in LOVE!!!!!! Thanks Sean for instant coffee at my finger tips.

Sunday the plan was for 7 miles, and we had mapped our a route on Saturday and took off running today. It was a rolling hill run, slight inclines on the way out, which made for a much easier run on the way back. Sean was pushed Evie in the BOB-a-sourace - she was entertained for the hour and half by her beloved Max and Ruby on the DVD player.  My knee started hurting shortly after the first mile but I was able to push through it and make it. Had to take a few stops for water and to control a coughing fits, but overall it was a pretty good run.
A photo courtesy of Sean, he was working his intervals again, waiting for me to catch up. He told me that he thinks I need to get some mace to carry when I run, after a strange guy walking on the other side of the road crossed over and decided to race up behind me before turning around. No idea why he would do that.  My theory in the past is no one was going to bother the overweight girl out working out when they could bother the skinny girl a few mile ahead of me. I know that sounds terrible, but I guess I need to take my safety when out running a little more serious.  Week 4 of half marathon training is on 1 of 3 runs complete.

Friday Recap

Weekly Weigh In:  Down one more pound this week. I couldn't be happier since I have missed a few workouts feeling bad this week.

The Run: I headed to the gym today to get my 5 mile tempo run, the problem is with this cold every time I got running I would have coughing fit. I ended up doing a walk/run combo just to keep my coughing to a minimum. Since I had some extra time I decided to sit in the dry sauna after my workout and it was heavenly.

I have been debating getting a pedicure for weeks. My feet really need one, but I was afraid that I would get blisters the first long run after getting one. I went for it anyways, heck a girl needs to pamper herself when she is feeling sick right.  So what do you think will I be getting blisters on my 7 milers on Sunday? I really hope not, but they will be worth it if I do.

Cold, cold go away

And don't come back another day! Oh and we can say that about the rain also, but I live in Washington and know that is just a crazy dream.  Last night I knocked out 30 minutes of Yoga before bed and it felt great. My plan calls for 5 Miles (after 2 miles, run 4 x 2 minutes tempos) today, but this cold is just kicking my butt. I am going to move that to tomorrow and just try to get another night of rest in and tackle the 5 miles tomorrow. 

I have been tracking all of my food this week and I am happy to say that I am on track to lose weight. The scale was down a little this morning, but with my official weigh in tomorrow morning I will have no problem staying on track tonight.

Coffee and Cough Syrup

I am really trying to be thankful today. It is difficult when you feel bad. This is the second time I got this chest cold this year. My lungs and chest hurt and my ribs are in pain from coughing so hard. I finally gave into the peer pressure of my husband and picked up some cough syrup on the way into work today.  The beauty of stopping for cough syrup.....COFFEE! I have been trying to not buy coffee as much as part of my new years budget, but I figured if I was going to gag down cough syrup I needed a treat. Oh delicious skinny carmel latte extra hot, how I love thee.
I took my shot of cough syrup, followed by a chaser of water and enjoyed my latte.  I did actually eat some oatmeal a little later. I am thankful that today all I have on my schedule is yoga, I just need to decide between Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga and P90X Yoga - how crazy do I want to be?

Any suggestions to get rid of this chest cold would be great. I hate taking medicine, but sometimes you do what you have to do. I really which I liked tea, it just sounds so nice right now.

Week 3 Run 2

Today's run was interesting. I attempted to do a hills on the treadmill and once I reached 5% incline I had to walk. I figure it was my first attempting running over 3% incline so I am not going to talk negative about this. I completed my 4 miles slower then I would have liked, but I have to keep reminding myself that I still in the running novice category. I am not an expert and it is going to take time. 

I ran in the cardio cinema again at the gym they were playing the movie Red. It was actually entertaining of course I only saw 55 minutes of it. The end and then it restarted, I think I am going to add it to my Netflix queue so that I can see the parts that I missed. I just plugged in my Bodybugg to checked my calories burned for the day and I should reach my goal of 2800 calories and I have 1 calorie left, I hope I don't get the urge to snack while watching the Biggest Loser tonight.

Anyone else have the urge to snack or eat when watching fitness programming?

Hill training

I only have 11 days 17 yours and 7 minutes to prepare for my next run, according to the ticker on the front page of the St. Patrick's Day Dash in Seattle.  The first year we ran the route in 2008 was an amazing flat route that ended on the Alaskan Way Viaduct, but now because of City issues the route has been changed it included a 1.5 mile hill. The beauty of the run is that once you go up, the only way back to the finish is down!  Makes for a speedy second half of the race.
Course Map
I mapped out the race on MapMyRun to determine the grade increase. Because at times it just feels like it is unbearable. According to MapMyRun the hill is about 1.5 miles long. The highest percent of increase is 7% - eeek! My goal this year is to run the entire hill, even if its just at a slow pace.  I have a 4 mile run planned for today, looks like I am going to make mile 2-3.5 a hill of some sort, maybe try a little bit at 7%! - honestly that frightens me, but heck I can try.

Bondi Bands for a GREAT Cause

My friend Amy has been a great support in my running adventures. Sharing advice and tips for a new runner. She is currently training for the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in June. I know she is going to rock it.
