Proud moments in 2011

We only have 16 more days in 2011 and it i,s as good as time as, any to look at my year and remember some moments that I am proud of. If you have been a follower for a while you may have already read these recaps.

I ended 2010 by signing up for a half marathon. Why? Not really sure, but I thought I could do it so I signed up. I learned at a later date that the course was super hilly, I still was determined to do it. In order to get ready for it I signed up for other races along the way.  I have linked to my race recaps and added some commentary as to why I am proud of this race.

Love'em or Leave'em Valentines Day 5K -  My first 5K that I ran the entire way, didn't stop once and just kept pushing. This was huge at the time for me at the time.

St. Patricks Day Dash almost 4 miles - This was my first race ever 4 years ago. This year I felt stronger then ever and got a PR out of it.

Bellevue Run 10K - First ever 10K. The race was nice I was proud that I crossed the finish line under the time limit. Being slow I always worry about this. To date it is my 10K PR.

Kirkland Half Marathon - I accomplished something I never thought I would EVER do. I am a girl who hated running. I am the girl who was always last to finish the mile in high school and now I am able to say I have ran a half marathon.

Shore Run/Walk2011 5K- This race was fun, I wasn't prepared as after my half I took a little longer then I wanted to recover from running. I still enjoyed it and the course was beautiful.

See Jane Run Women's 5K  - Nothing better then running with a bunch of ladies to boost your confidence. I meet some awesome Pacific Northwest Bloggers and also got a PR for the 5K distance.

Lake Union 10K - This race was a struggle for me. It was warmer then I am used to but I was inspired along the way by a women who was running her first race ever. We kept playing leapfrog along the way and motivating each other.

Iron Girl 10K -  This race was ugly, but it showed me that I should never give up. I wanted to quit at the 5K mark but I pushed through and completed the race.
Bellinghm Bay  - I ran this with a friend, it was her first 5K and I have to say I had a little awesome to be able to share my new found interest in running with someone else. She beat me but that's ok because it also reminded me that I am only in competition with myself.

Salmon Days 10K - My home town race! Along this race a local runner who was running her first 10K started chatting with me. We ran the rest of the race together and having a buddy to run with was awesome and help keep me motivated to push through when it starts to hurt. It also taught me that I don't need to be a solo runner and that if I open up a little more on the course I might meet some new people.

Amica Seattle Half Marathon - I don't even know what to say about this race, It was tough, I was hurting but I crossed the finish line and got a new half marathon PR. I also now get the privilege to say I am half marathoner, because I have ran more then one. :) I actually really enjoyed this course and will most likely do it again next year. I know I have shared this race photo before but I have to say it is one I am really proud of. I feel strong in it, I feel like I got this I am confident that I am going to reach the finish line.

What is your proudest moment of 2011?

  3. High 5 - what a year you've had!!!!!

I'm with KJ - I'm just proud I was able to run because I was NEVER a runner. I'm also like you - I am always thankful when I can finish before the time limit . . . I always have that in mind when racing since I'm not fast!

Great post!!!! Hope 2012 is even better!

  8. Look at all those races! Definitely a year to be proud of. I ran my first 5K on July 4, one year to the day I started running. Unfortunately I've been sidelined with injuries since then, but have just restarted and have big plans for 2012 :)
