Weekend Update

I am so bad at taking rest days and then I realize that I am exhausted. Thursday I had no energy so I skipped my workout. I figured I would just turn my 3 miles on Friday into 6. When I woke up Friday I was still wiped out. I was checking out my dailymile that day and realized it had been 9 days since I took a real rest day. I was supposed to take a rest day the Saturday before but I snuck in a Spin Class instead. If you asked me 4 years ago how many days I week I workout I would have said 3, and that would have been a lie. Now I find myself exhausted as I don't properly rest my body.  This is something that I am going to really focus on after the first of the year. I am 1 week out from my half, I have my next rest day planned and I am going to have to force myself to not go to they gym on Saturday the 26th, the day before my half.

I took Thursday off but since then I have completed the following workouts:
Friday - 6 miles, abs and arm weights
Saturday - 1 hour on the elliptical and the 1 hour Spin Class
Sunday - 10 miles 7 miles, I was freezing

The rest of my week looks like this:
Monday - Spin
Tuesday - 2 miles & Arm work
Wednesday - Spin
Thursday - 4 miles (Turkey Day) & Arm work
Friday -  Spin - Should I rest this day also? Rest, I will try my best
Saturday - Rest - I will rest!
Sunday - Seattle Half Marathon

That will be 8 days in a row before a rest day, I wish I could say I would skip Friday's Spin class - but I have a feeling I won't. While most people will be out Black Friday shopping I will be sweating my butt off. :)  Unless I find a super deal, then I will Black Friday shop early and then go to Spin.

  1. I recommend two days of (real) rest before your first half. Your legs will be nice and fresh for the race.

    Oh, I hate Black Friday shopping. My husband and kids love it and will be out there with the rest of you crazy people while I'm asleep.

  2. Good point!! I will try my best to do 2 rest days. I can honestly say that will be hard for me. Especially since I have the day off on Friday I will want to go to the gym!

    And definitely rest up, you will feel the benefits of it on race day.
