Baby steps

With the family not feeling so well it took everything in my power to hit the treadmill last night for an easy 3 miles. It was not easy 3 miles, it was tough and I had to work for it. I wanted to quit after each mile but I kept telling myself that it is only 3 miles just keep going. After the run I completed two circuits with arm weights with 25 jumping jacks in between all followed by a round of ab work. I started exhausted and I ended dead. I crawled upstairs and passed out in bed.

This morning my alarm went off and I wanted to toss it out the window. I could have just hit snooze, but I knew that I needed to go to Spin Class. I got dressed and grabbed my iPad and headed to class early. I wanted to get there at least 10 minutes early so that I could get some miles in before class started. I usually have to leave about 5 minutes early so I can get to work on time, so I figured the extra time would be great.  I was able to warm up my legs before class as well as handle a little email. I know my gym has WiFi but I really wanted to test if I would be able to stream a T.V show or something while on the bike, just looking for options for days when I can't make it to class.  I was going to test that but I forgot my headphones and the class actually started filling up early this morning. I guess everyone else wanted to get an early start on their day as well.

I am not sure if I mentioned it but I am officially registered for another Half in 2012. I have 2 of the 4 I want to run next year picked out, now to just figure out what the other 2 will be.  I kind of want to travel for a race, but I am not sure if I will make that work.

How is your 2012 planning going? Have you ever travelled for a race?

  1. Hope everyone is feeling much better!

  2. Good job on getting through the workouts! Definitely not fun in those circumstances. Hope you are able to rest soon!

  3. what half(s) are you doing?

Maybe you can motivate me to sign up for the Get Lucky half that is going on here in March..for St.Patty's day of course. They offer either a 7K or 21K (half) and right now I am leaning towards the 7K just cuz you never know what the weather may bring in March and MN.

    Get better!!

  4. I enjoy the idea of traveling for races, but the execution always gets me. Mostly, I sleep very poorly in strange places. Not that I ever get enough sleep before big races, but sleeping somewhere new never helps.

  5. Good for you for sticking to that work out plan! Not easy to do when there are other things going on with your family.

You are taking the stairs at work and being winded, but can run. I take the stairs all the time but ran a 1/2 block this AM and thought I'd set my lungs on fire. :) I thought of you!

  6. You're truly an inspiration - I can't imagine pushing through 3 miles when you started off exhausted and pushed to "dead" tired THEN rolled out of bed less than 12 hours later and went to the gym - you're awesome!!!! Truly awesome!!!!

So I don't have an ipad, but you led me to wonder something as you were trying to see if you could stream tv or something. Could you stream a spinning video so you could actually have your own little class? Maybe youtube or maybe "an app" ha! Probably a dumb suggestion, but it seems like an interesting idea if it could work!

    Hope your family feels better!

  7. Yeah it's tough going downstairs to hit the treadmill, but good for you for getting it done. I'm new to your blog but look forward to reading more! I'm just starting to get 2012 sorted out and I never have, but would LOVE to travel for a race sometime...

  8. nice job getting yourself out of bed. it's so hard to resist the bed magnet sometimes!

what are the other 2 halfs on your list? I've traveled for a couple races and had a blast. just don't let the race inhibit you from enjoying other vacation-related activities.

  9. Good for you for getting out of bed and go to spinning. I hit the snooze button twice this week and didn't do my workouts.

I'm approaching 2012 different than I am used to do. I don't look further than 4 months ahead. For example, in December I will look into races for March. I haven't made my mind up if I want to try the half marathon again next year. If I do it will be a Fall half.

  10. WTG getting to the gym when you woke up wanting to throw the alarm out the window :)

My plans for 2012 are almost done! I still need to decide which full I want to run but other than that my races are calendared and my goals are set.

Yes. I've traveled for races and love it. I enjoy running in new places and the travel adds to the excitement and fun of running a race.

What 2 races are you registered for?
