You make the choice

I  have always been a believer that people need to make their own decisions in regards to their food choices. The longer I struggle with my weight the more I see it is a cruel cruel world out there.  I know that it is my responsibility to lose the weight. I put it on, I can and will take it off, but the outside world is not going to make it easy. For example - I saw a commercial the other day for a sandwich that, well looked like a delicious heart attack on a plate. This is something that I probably would have eaten in the past. Something that I would have cleared the plate and left feeling like I was going to barf, but I wouldn't have stopped me.
It looked so good that I had to look it up and see that was actually on it. Introducing the ultimate in patty melts. A hand-pressed beef patty topped with our NEW creamy Mac ‘n Cheese, melted Cheddar cheese and zesty Frisco sauce on grilled potato bread. Served with a side of our wavy-cut French fries

Oh Denny's this is wrong is so many ways! Check out the nutritional stats on this: It has more calories then I allow myself in one day.   Serving Size - 21 oz |  Calories - 1690 | Fat - 99 | Trans Fat - 1 | Saturated Fat - 36 | Cholesterol - 180 | Sodium - 2010 | Carbohydrates - 126 | Fiber - 7 | Protein - 64 | Sugar - 11
Of course you have to remember this doesn't include any dipping sauce as you know Ranch would be awesome with this.   I wish there were more restaurants that were compelled to help the nation fight against obesity, but that is not going to happen so the fight has to start with me. I can only control the foods that go into my mouth and do my best not to enable my family to go down the wrong path food wise.

The plan for me is today is to keep fighting the good fight against obesity. I stayed up to late last night playing catch up on my DVR so no early workout for me. Since I did my 5 miler Tuesday, today my plan is 2 miles followed by Jillian Michael's Shred It with Weights DVD.

What is the worst meal out there? There are so many so lets say what are the worst, that you would actually consider ordering? What is your favorite meal to order when eating out?

  2. We saw a commercial for this last night! I can't help but wonder if that is the highest calorie item on their menu, or if there is something even worse!

What I hate the most is when you are thinking you are making a good choice and then find out it was still 1200 calories! UGH!

  3. Love this post! I feel pretty passionate about this myself. It's so sad that it's near impossible to "eat well" when you go out to eat. Even choosing a salad option they're still PACKED with calories. What is it? Is it that nobody feels like people would want to PAY good money to eat healthy? Frustrating for sure. But you're right, all we can do is start with our families and teach our kids good habits. And perhaps that eating out is a BIG treat, not an every day thing.

  4. Recently while on Vacation in California we went to IHOP. It was because my son is a fan of pancakes and we had never been (we don't have IHOP where I live). Our jaws dropped when we saw some of the calorie counts on breakfast items. Most of them like you said were more than I eat in a day..unbelievable!

  6. Sorry...to me that looks gross...but, after a few too many drinks my indulgence is a greasy burger from McDonalds...Big Mac or double cheeseburger will do.

(Only about twice a year though..;-)

I LOVE food...its super hard to stay healthy and not give in to the sweet tooth...unfortunately my second daughter has totally developed one too so I need to watch it for me and for her. (good thing she runs for now)

  8. I hate that tortilla chips are so many calories. Especially at Chipotle where I think I'm eating healthy. At lunch time, I can easily order all of my calories for the day there, as well as at a hamburger place. Not fair.

  9. Holy crap! Definitely heart attack on a plate. That kind of stuff never appeals to me - it's the sneaky stuff like lots of popcorn w/ too much butter, skinny breadsticks, buttered biscuits...uh, I'm a complete carb hound. Not even carbs, just bread!!

I can't buy croutons. :) I will tell myself I will just have a handful, but I'll sit and munch the whole darn bag.

  10. As a HUGE fan of grilled cheese, mac & cheese and French fries, even I wouldn't eat this. Crazy bad!! I mean if I was a meat eater I'd probably see some temptation, but dang. I would have a gut ache before finishing - and I can never leave any part of a grilled cheese uneaten.

Girl - I just read your comment about my outfit - you're the sweetest girl ever!!! I would LOVE to sport those stars :) I think it'll be too warm though for the upcoming 2 halfs . . . .would you be willing to let me wear them for my November trail race? I know I could rock them - put on some blue sparkly nail polish and I have 2 different colors of blue shirts. Up to you - I totally have never worn arm sleeves. My email address is spunky (underscore) lisa (at) yahoo (dot) com. Whatever you want - you're just so sweet for thinking of me :)
