The Plan

I have a plan for my second half marathon, it may be 18 weeks long but I think it will also help me get in the habit of running even when I am not in the full out training mode. I am hoping to make running just a normal part of my life and not just train and then stop running when the race is over.

The plan I used the Runner's World Smart Coach link and using my last half time as a guidance the program has me taking about 15 minutes off first half my time. My times may seem slow, but I am going to do my best to trust the plan. I plan to reevaluate 12 weeks before the half.

This weeks plan:
Mon - 4M @14:34
Tues - 3M @14:30
Wed - 60 min. Kickboxing Class
Thur - 4M - warm up, 2x1600 in 12:10 w/800 jogs, cool down
Fri - Rest
Saturday - 60 min Kickboxing Class
Sun - 5M @14:30

I have decided to stop doing the push up challenge for now as I do plenty of push ups in the kickboxing class. I plan to still try to tackle my hill a couple times with in my runs as I still want to be able to run up the entire thing before the end of summer.

This morning I did a 75 minute kickboxing class and it was so tough. My arms are already sore, I am afraid of how my legs are going to feel tomorrow between the kicks and the squats I hope I am able to walk. After getting my workout in, I rushed to wash my car and then hop in the shower to start the first birthday celebration for my daughter. She is turning 4 on the 30th, but we had a birthday lunch for her today and many more fun things to come this week.

How was your weekend? Did the weather cooperate for you? I know here in the PNW we enjoyed two days of sun!!!!!

  2. I want to know about the SmartCoach - does it cost? Is there a link? I LOVE your plan. I'm pretty slow and your plan looks totally like my ideal plan. I really do need to know more about the SmartCoach. Good luck - can't wait to follow your journey!

  3. I think it will be good! I have never heard of Smartcoach. I used Hal Higdon's 18 week plan. It worked pretty good as well. Every one has their own pace so if you keep at it I'm sure it will improve to what you want! Good luck...can't wait to hear about your progress!

  5. I used the runners world training plan for my first half although I cut the tempo and speedwork runs on the weekdays short the longer the distances got. It was too long for me to do on a weekday.

    I was using the same plan up till last week when I noticed it wasn't working for me and I switched to Hal Higdon's intermediate plan for a half which I'm starting this week at week 2. I hope this works better for me.

    Your plan looks good although maybe one rest day is not much. When your long runs get longer it might be hard if you don't have a rest day before or after that day. I find a day of rest before a long run very helpful to perform better.

  6. Hey - are you doing kickboxing right there on the boulevard? Is it appropriate for uncoordinated non-athletes? I see it all the time and haven't had the oomph to check into it. You like it, though?
