The gas tank

When I was younger and thinner I used to call my tummy pooch the Gas Tank to my love machine. Yes I was that cheesy and didn't want to come to terms that I was getting fat. Now I pretty much just call it whatever nasty name I can come up with in the given moment.

One thing I noticed when I run is have no support on my stomach area. My core is not as strong as I would like it to be, but its pretty darn strong, yet the extra tummy fat on top of it is hiding all the sweet goodness underneath. It is even worse when I slowly gets more and more bloated until I look like I am running pregnant. Need a visual look that this photo of Scarlett Johansson  she is in much better shape then me and yet she still gets the belly pooch when she runs. When my stomach is pulled in I feel more support in my core, I feel stronger. 

Last night when I went out for my run I tried a combo of clothing to try to get that support. I tossed on my CEP compression shorts  - hello compression, a running skirt and a tank, yet after the first mile my stomach had forced its way out and was creating a massive muffin sexy. The second mile was hill training After each run as I walked back down I was able to readjust the shorts and get a more support feeling for the next attempt.   I feel like I need to get a pair of Spanx to supported my gas tank.

One highlight of last nights 2.11 mile run, my first mile was 11:07, I think that is a record for a  mile outside. Of course I feel like I cheated a little as the first .25 is downhill, but you know I am going to take it and try to get better.  The second part of my run was much slower because I was trying to tackle the monster hill I live on. I took 4 attempts at it, each time pushing myself a little farther - if I had to estimate I would say I can run about 1/3 up the hill without stopping, not bad for my first attempt.

Any suggestion for tummy support when running?

Any tips for running a hill that looks like this?


  1. Love the ScarJo photo! Now I don't feel so bad about my own gas tank.

    As for the monster hill, someone told me to "toe off" strongly, and let my arms do some of the work. That hill work WILL pay off!

  3. It sounds like diastasis when the main abdominal muscles ( begin to pull apart. I have the same thing and it is soooo annoying! There are stomach excercises you can do while even in your car...thing is you have to do hundreds of them to bring the muscles together.

  4. @ Annette, I am sure it is something like that. When I was 18 I had exploritroy surgery, cut open from my breast bone to below my belly button so I am not sure I will be able to get much back. For now I just deal with the cards I was dealt...and complain about it. :)

  5. I want to wear spanx as I run, too!!!!! I need a full body / wet suit style pair, though. lmao Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem.

    No suggestions...only that my tummy pooch sneaks out all the time and I think after having two boys, it could be a lot worse, so I don't stress!!!
