I should be in bed

Last week I missed one workout Saturdays kickboxing class and I am ok with that becuase I wanted to be home when my daughter woke up on her 4th birthday.  Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes for her - she had a wonderful day.  Of course when I asked her today her favorite part she said the cake.

I just finished my Sunday run on the treadmill (5 miles @14:30), my right achilles and right ankle as been bothering me so I didn't want to head out and get to far from home. My over all pace was 13:20. I  tried to keep my pace comfortable and slow, but I had a hard time not just walking at 14:30 so I picked it up a little bit.
This weeks plan is as follows
Mon - Kickboxing Class
Tues - 4M @14:27
Wed - Kickboxing Class
Thur - 4M - warm up, 2 miles at 12:42, cool down
Fri - Rest
Saturday - Possibly hiking with my kiddo - we will have to wait for the weather report.
Sun - 5M @14:27

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Happy Birthday Evie bug!

Happy Birthday to my baby girl! Today I was going to try to squeeze in a workout before you woke up, but I decided I need to make this day about you! For the past 4 years you have made my life wonderful! You have add so much joy to our lives and I look forward to the many years to come.  I only have one request can you go easy on me when you hit the teenage years! Please!  I look forward to being a good example for you in health and fitness. I am beyond thrilled that you want to running with me and I know shortly you will be able to our run me, but that just motivates me to get better. You are a daily reminder of why its important to run, to eat healthy and to push my body to its limits. I want to be here for you when you start kindergarten, fall in love for the first time, get your first car (your dad can teach you to drive), graduate from high school, graduate from college and one day find the love of your life and get married. I hope to see you through all those wonderful moments in your life and be by your support along the way.
I love you little one.

Friday housekeeping

No I don't mean I am cleaning myself, infact that idea is funny. Ask my husband I am not much of a house cleaner. :)  I just have a bunch of random thoughts today - so bullet points to the resuce.

  • Weekly Weigh In - down 1lb
  • Life As I See It [Fitness, Health and Happiness]I got my run in last night 4 miles, warm up, 2x1600 @12:10 w/ 800 jogs and a cool down. It was tough but I hung in there on the 1600 and completed them both under 12:10.
  • I am so happy the today is a rest day! My body needs it.
  • Like Run with Jess on Facebook and when she reaches 200 followers she will have a giveaway.  Feel free to tell her I sent you over.  I don't get anything for the referral - just being nice
  • Run with Jess is also hosting a Spin Challenge in August. Check it out here.
  • Participate in Blog Hop Friday  - its a lot of fun to find new bloggers, just click on the on the side.
  • Washington has a law that you are not supposed to talk on your cell phone will driving unless you are using a headset. Well yesterday I noticed that I didn't have my wallet and that I had left it in my husbands car. As luck would have it his wallet was in my car. I pulled my phone out to call him sans headset and I ended up getting pulled over and getting a $124 dollar ticket. They guy could have ticketed me for not having my ID, but just gave me the cell phone ticket!  Note to self - put phone on speaker phone when driving in the car and talking on the phone.
  • 4 years ago to this day I was on modified bed rest. Well I was supposed to be on bed rest but I also had a bridesmaid dress to get fitted for.  It was actually pretty comical getting fitted for a wedding I was going to be in 3 weeks postpartum at 38 weeks pregnant. I ended up having to be sewed into my dress on the day of the wedding to keep it from falling down. My baby girl turns 4 years old tomorrow.  Tomorrow will be spent celebrating her birthday her way.
  •  Lastly one of the winners of the Gotien never claimed there prize. So it is up for grabs. The first person to comment that they want it - its yours.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. For everyone racing I hope the weather cooperates where ever you may be racing.  What are your plans for the weekend?

TTT Confessions Edition

Forgive me runners for I have sinned:

  1. I don't keep my running bibs, the usually make it home and then into the garbage within a few days. I am not really a saver of many things so I don't see the value for me to keep them. I see people who make awesome books of their bibs and I think. WOW that is really cool, but what would I do with that, ugh I would have to store it. I hate storing things.
  2. I hardly ever keep the free T-Shirts, especially the tech tees. Most of the time I just don't like how the fit.  I do love the long sleeve cotton ones that they hand out a lot here in Washington. I turn them into lounge around the house shirts if they are cute. Most of the tech tees just feel thin and cheap and when I try to run on them the end up just sticking to my skin which is gross.
  3. I only have one 'good' sports bra. That means by the end of the week it is pretty ripe. I need to invest in another one and I talk about doing it all the time, but I never go out and buy one. Its hard when you need something with amazing support to keep from giving yourself black eyes when you run. I have an Enell bra now, but want to try something different but haven't found something that I love.
What are your running confessions? Any suggestions for a sports bra that keep the ladies in place?

The mental game

I have been fighting the mental game since started getting more serious about running more in January. It has always been mental game for me. The excuse just build up and get me to give up - from your not fast enough to you are to fat to run.  I saw this posted on my friends Facebook  page a few weeks ago and it is so true.  As I started training again I have decided that I need to fight this mental block and let me legs do what they want.

Last  night was a particularly hard mental fight. My plan called for 4 miles at 14:34, I didn't get a chance to run until almost 8:45 last night. I had to hit the treadmill as it was raining and getting dark and I am not prepared for running in the dark.  As I started I wanted to give up before the end of the first mile. My core was hurting from kickboxing, my hips were stiff and on the treadmill 4.2 mph is 14:17  which for me is a fast walk or a slow jog. After the first mile I wanted to give up and go to bed. I told myself to stay on there and get to mile to. I started a jog walk intervals, my hips started to loosen up and I started to feel a little better. Mile 2, I adjusted the incline to 2% and kept going. Before I knew it I was at 3.5 miles and pushed until the end.

When I was done I felt great! I was glad that I pushed myself to complete the distance even if walking was involved. I told myself to trust the plan, get a few weeks in and adjust as needed. For now I will accept my pace - the only person I am in competition with is myself.  Today's workout calls for 3M @14:30  - we will see how what my legs want to do and go from there.

Do you have any tips for beating the mental fatigue? What keeps you going when you just want to quit?

One winner of the Gotien giveaway has not contacted me if you are a winner and have no been in contact with me please email or else I will select a new winner. Thank you.

I love mail

Look what came in the mail this weekend. One for me and one for my little booger eater! Ok she doesn't eat boogers but she has gained the nickname boogie over the years for being the cutest little snot nose kid I know. :)  I ordered them and received the out of stock notice, but I still received them a lot quicker then I expected. It also helps to check the mail often as they could have been there since Thursday.

A small pink for Evie and a large green for me!

They are cute right! The pink small is really small but does stretch over a 4 year old hand, I would not recommend this size for an adult unless your hand is the size of a 4 year old.

This morning I woke up to run and my big toe was hurting me, I noticed it when I woke up to a whining child at 12:30 but figured it was just cramped up or something. I skipped running this morning in hopes that my toe feels better later in the day. The plan calls for 4 miles and I will get them in. My goal this week is to get all of my workouts in....last week I was feeling exhausted and I am going with the theory  - working out gives you energy. I will get my workouts in. I will have more energy!

Happy Monday!

The Plan

I have a plan for my second half marathon, it may be 18 weeks long but I think it will also help me get in the habit of running even when I am not in the full out training mode. I am hoping to make running just a normal part of my life and not just train and then stop running when the race is over.

The plan I used the Runner's World Smart Coach link and using my last half time as a guidance the program has me taking about 15 minutes off first half my time. My times may seem slow, but I am going to do my best to trust the plan. I plan to reevaluate 12 weeks before the half.

This weeks plan:
Mon - 4M @14:34
Tues - 3M @14:30
Wed - 60 min. Kickboxing Class
Thur - 4M - warm up, 2x1600 in 12:10 w/800 jogs, cool down
Fri - Rest
Saturday - 60 min Kickboxing Class
Sun - 5M @14:30

I have decided to stop doing the push up challenge for now as I do plenty of push ups in the kickboxing class. I plan to still try to tackle my hill a couple times with in my runs as I still want to be able to run up the entire thing before the end of summer.

This morning I did a 75 minute kickboxing class and it was so tough. My arms are already sore, I am afraid of how my legs are going to feel tomorrow between the kicks and the squats I hope I am able to walk. After getting my workout in, I rushed to wash my car and then hop in the shower to start the first birthday celebration for my daughter. She is turning 4 on the 30th, but we had a birthday lunch for her today and many more fun things to come this week.

How was your weekend? Did the weather cooperate for you? I know here in the PNW we enjoyed two days of sun!!!!!

Weekly Weigh In and Accomplishments

I forgot to post this yesterday, but as of Friday I was down one pound for the week. I will take it as I am still trying to get back in the swing of things and keeping myself on track.

Yesterday I was thinking about what I have accomplished this year.
  • 2008-2010 -  I participated in 6 races
  • 2011  - I have raced and crossed the finish line on 6 races
  • I have plans for 5 more races and 1 fundraising walk (Seattle Brain Cancer Walk).
That will be a total of 12 events in 2011, two of them will be half marathons. I have actually been considering squeezing a few more into our already busy schedule, but we will see. My December has no races on the books so suggestions are always welcome.

Taking a moment to look back at this I have to be proud of how far I have come.  Self-reflection is good right, I never thought I would have come this far.

Team Amazing Joe

Our team is participating in the 2011 Seattle Brain Cancer Walk benefiting the Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute. You might be wondering why we are walking for Brain Cancer. 100% of the walk proceeds go directly to patient care and research.

  • We will walk because each year, 220,000 Americans – 1,200 in the Pacific Northwest – are diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. With limited treatment options and a life expectancy of only one to two years, brain cancer is a frightening disease to face.
  • We will walk to help increase the life expectancy of anyone diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.
  • We will walk to honor and support someone who is has a family member with brain cancer.
  • We will walk because our family has been impacted by this terrible cancer.
  • We will walk for Joe. Joe was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2007. The tumor was removed and  the cancer can come back.  Joe lost his fight in May of 2010.
  • We will walk because we know if the roles were reversed Joe would be walking with us and then for us.
Please consider joining us this year by donating or signing up for our team. You don't have to be local to participate you can be a virtual walker. Every person who runs, walks, donates or volunteers is helping make a positive impact on brain cancer research. If you are local and would like to join our team you are more then welcome, just sign up and email me at runnermaybe @

Donations can be made at our team site - Amazing Joe.

T.G.I.F and Winners

My daughter is addicted to Katy Perry......and when I say addicted I mean that she constantly ask for us to play Katy Perry songs.  With that said I am ready to chant T.G.I.F today - I am so happy to see the weekend finally arrive. Also I saw a glimpse of the sun this morning and a possibility that it will reach the 75 tomorrow.

Yesterday I was supposed to run 4 miles, I have not had a rest day since last Friday so I my lazy bum decided that Thursday would be my rest day and I would run 4 miles today. What was I thinking, I don't want to run 4 miles on a Friday evening, but I really don't have much else to do so I will get it done.

The plan for this weekend is scattered, I want to try to hit up the kickboxing class and get 3-4 mile run in. Beside that we are going to have a date night and see Harry Potter.

And now what you have all been waiting for the winners of the Gotien Sample packs. Instead of using to select my winner I decided to use the date. 7/22 = 7+2+2 = 11 and the year 2011 = 2+0+1+1 = 4 making the winners Amy and Amanda.

Ladies email me at runnermaybe @  and I will get the samples sent out to you.

Have any weekend plans? Will you be racing?

There is not enough coffee

There is not enough coffee in Seattle to overcome the crappy summer we are having in. You might have seen this weather map on twitter or facebook, but its completely accurate. It was evening windy and raining when I left this morning. It feels like October.  I read in article yesterday that said Seattle has had a whopping 18 hours and 48 minutes of temperatures above 75 this summer -- hey, it's more than 2/3rd of a day!   Out of the last 200 days, 144 have been below normal temperatures.
We crave the sunlight in Seattle, we don't turn all sparkly like some believe when the sun comes out. We want to be out and enjoying it. The beauty of the Pacific Northwest is we typically get 4 seasons, we have been stuck on Fall for way to long for my liking and it is making me cranky.

Last night I had my butt handed to me at kickboxing. It was a blast, but I need to get over being the fat girl in the room. I can hang with the best of them during my workout, but I often look in the mirrors and pick myself apart. I need to work on my self esteem and see a better image of myself while working out.

Today the goal is to get in 4 miles I want to do it outside. I guess one bonus of this freeze it is perfect running weather.
How do you overcome the weather blues?

I love Trail Mix

I pink puffy heart LOVE it....or whatever all the cool kids are saying now! It is so yummy but so freaking high in calories for the portion that you get. We picked up the Kirkland brand at Costco this weekend and it is 160 calories for 30grams. Now 30 grams might be like a lot for something light and airy like Pirates Booty, but for trail mix its just enough to make you craving more.

This is your average ramekin a normal small cup for snacks and this is what 30 grams looks in it. See how you can still see the bottom of the cup.

This is 90 grams of Trail Mix and probably more like the average amount I would eat in the past in one setting. Truth be told I would probably eat more then that I would just eat right out of the 3lb bag.

I love the salty/sweet aspect of trail mix plus it is a totally portable snack. Does anyone have any good recipes or combos for trail mix that isn't so high in calories for a small portion. I am thinking I might make my own, but one of my favorite parts is the raisins because they are covered in salt.

Last night I hit the gym to ride the bike for 10 miles as part of my cross training. Tonight I plan to go to kickboxing class and I am so looking forward to it. I training plan yesterday using the Smart Coach link on Runner's World. It is a long plan, but I figure it will give me plenty of time to build up my base and get back into running. Tonight's class fits perfectly into the plan for cross training. :)

What is your favorite type of cross training?

What goes down must come up

Thanks for  all of the examples on training plans. I am researching them and trying to figure out which one I like the best and go from there.  Last night was a nice evening, after I put the little one to bed I felt like I should go run even if it almost 9PM. I figured I just needed to loosen up my legs as they were still tight from the kickboxing and the 5K.  I want to try to run outside as much as possible, but as I have mentioned I live on a hill! Seriously what goes down has to come back up to get home. Yes I know one of my goals is to run up my hill, but to go on a run I will always have to run or walk back up it.  I headed out for the first mile at 11:01 and then turned back to tackle the hill. I only made it to the same spot as last time, but I am ok with that. I finished the rest of the hill walking to my house. Total mileage 1.69.

I woke up this morning and my legs are feeling much better. I think today I am going to hit the gym and do some mileage on the bike a little active rest.  Not a bad start to my goals for the week:

  • 3 days of push up challenge
  • 2 days Kickboxing
  • 1.69 out of 9 miles done
  • Run my hill at least 1x - Done
Anyone a Big Brother Fan?  Rachel is beyond annoying and I am surprised that Rose hasn't come up with a Big Brother workout, like her bachlorette workout - just based on Rachel. There are so many annoying traits that you could totally get your workout on to.

How is your Tuesday going?

Need new training plan

First I wanted to send a shout out to my new followers! Welcome hopefully I can entertain you enough that you keep reading! If you comment I try to go and check out your blogs as well. Bloggyland has really helped me on my journey running. Finding other runners out there who are in similar situations as myself is really inspiring.

I set out last week to accomplish a few goals and I did in the last few days of the weekend.  I signed up for my kickboxing class and actually was able to attend a new member orientation on Saturday. Now I have 19 class to fit in over the next 60 days. The goal will be to do it 2x a week.

I almost accomplished my 9 mile goal, but only made it 8. If I wanted include the walks here and there that weren't actually training I would of hit the 9 miles. I am sure I walked over a mile at the See Jane Run, just checking stuff out waiting for the race to start.

I started the push up challenge and will begin week 2 this week, so I am right on track there.

This week I plan to do the following in no particular order:
  • 3 days of push up challenge
  • 2 days Kickboxing
  • Run 9 miles in any combination of runs
  • Run my hill at least 1x
I need a training plan for my half in November, anyone have any good suggestions. Last time I did a 12 week plan and I think it worked out great. It was hybrid plan of a Hal Higdon and the Nike+ online program. It had me running 3x a week.  The plan has to be easy enough for me to follow, but tough enough to make me stick with it.  Anyone with running ninja skills want to help me create a plan?

How was everyone's weekend? Did you race, did you relax, try anything new? If you have any training plan suggestions let me know?

Don't forget to check out my Gotien Giveaway.

Gotien Product Review and Giveaway

There are a variety of protein powders out there and honestly I am a person who has to try them know if I like them. When I was contacted to see if I would like to try Gotien I was excited - I like free things. Plus I hate buying stuff and not liking it, I hate things going to waste.

I also like things simple and easy to use - so Gotien seemed like a product I would like. I was sent 3 samples. Strawberry, vanilla and chocolate -  I was actually pretty leery of trying it because I don't like to mix my protein powder with just water.

About the Gotien:
Gotein™Protein to Go, helps refuel the body, and improves lean muscle mass while burning fat*. Perfect for the sports minded person that needs to perform at their best while exercising or playing a high energy sport.*

Drink approximately 1/3 of a 16.9 fl. oz water. Add complete packet of Gotein™ to your water bottle, swirl and shake well until completely dissolved and enjoy a tasty, low carb shake!

Best to use between 20 to 30 minutes before and after exercise or active sport. Can also be used 30 to 45 minutes before meals to help curb your hunger.

That all sounds good and the protien to calorie ratio was also good to me:
  • Gotein™ Vanilla packet contains 17 grams of our special protein matrix, 5 grams of carbs, 24 essential vitamins and minerals, and is only 100 calories.
  • Gotein™ Chocolate packet contains 16 grams of our special protein matrix, 6 grams of carbs, 24 essential vitamins and minerals, and is only 110 calories.
  • Gotein™ Strawberry packet contains 17 grams of our special protein matrix, 6 grams of carbs, 24 essential vitamins and minerals, and is only 110 calories.
If I have intrigued you and you want to skip over my review and don't want to try to enter my giveaway you can get a free 3 pack sample from their website - Gotein Sample Pack  all you pay is S&H.

Gotien Trial Day #1 - First off I don't use disposable water bottles often, even on the go. I typically have this cup, a sigg bottle or another one of my many reusable water bottles with me. I mentally tried to figure out how much water to put in my cup and guessed with about 12oz. I mixed in the Strawberry flavor and added some ice.

I decided to try it as a snack along with a piece of fruit at work. I find that around 2PM I start to get the munchies and often have a hard time resisting going to the vending machine. I try to no keep any change on me and bring healthy snacks - so Gotien looked like it might be a good option.

The taste of strawberry for me was - ok. I will admit though I am not a fan of fake strawberry taste, I am more of a vanilla girl for protein shakes. With that said it was easy to make at work and did give me a 'full' feeling.

Gotien Trial Day #2 - I signed up for a new member orientation at a local kickboxing studio. I figured the chocolate flavor would be perfect post workout. A couple of hours before the schedule class I prepped the drink about 11oz of water and chocolate packet was put into the bottle, shaken well and tossed in the freezer.  Post workout the drink was AMAZING! It was still a little frozen so it was like having slushy chocolate milk.

Gotien Trial Day #3 - As part of my morning smoothie. I saved the vanilla flavor to try out in my morning smoothie. This morning it was blueberry Greek yogurt, banana, coconut milk and Gotien Vanilla Protein Powder and it was delish! One last photo of it mixed in a smoothie for breakfast.

I think its a toss up between chocolate and vanilla as my favorite. I loved it as a slushy frozen drink post workout, but this morning a smoothie is such a good way for me to start my day.

The only con for this product is the price at $24.95 for 12 that works out to $2.07. Since I often just make my protein shake and take them with me the ease of single serving is not as appealing to me. However I think for travelling this product would be wonderful as I often don't take protein powder for fear of it spilling. I also think it would be great to have a few in my work bag for those times when I need a snack and I was not prepared.

With all of that you have the chance to try it out. I hae 2 - sample packets to giveaway. Each sample packet has vanilla, chocolate and strawberry in a single serving packet. To enter all you have to do is:
  • Tell me how you think you would use this product
  • As a bonus entry, tell me what your favorite go to protein powder is as I love trying new things.
Two winners will be picked on Friday July 22nd.

See Jane Run 5K

This morning I was up and sneaking out of my house by 6AM. I had planned to get up at 6AM, but my daughter started waking early so I quickly got up, gobbled down some oatmeal and headed out the door. Of course that was after taking a few self portraits of myself.

The run started and ended at Gas Works Park in Seattle, so after a quick stop at Starbucks for coffee I was there.  With plenty of time to wait around.
With so much time I was able to check out the vendors and see the reward for this run. I also had the pleasure to run into some Pacific Northwest bloggers and chat it up before they started the half marathon.

Before long it was time to start the 5K, I was determined to start off slow so I wouldn't burn out. My legs were sore from the kickboing class yesterday and I wanted to make sure that they would last me.

Stats from the Garmin:
Mile 1 - 11:34
Mile 2 - 12:02
Mile 3-  12:46
.1 - 1:13
Total Time 37:37, average pace 12:04
I am really happy with the overall average pace, but I am disappointed with my last mile. I just couldn't get my breath on the last mile. This photo was during the first mile.

And after I was done!

The good thing about this race is that it was on the smaller side, however it did have some bad parts but that is to be expected for an inaugural race. One of the major cons for me was the 5K path, it was an out and back race on a pretty narrow bike path, so I felt bad for the faster runners. The had to watch where they were going coming back as many of the slower runners didn't realize they needed to move over.

The 5K path was also at the end of the half path, some of the faster half marathoners had to dodge 5Kers. The two girls who came in first for the half marathon completed it in 1 hour 23 minutes!!! They were rock stars, but I think I would have been frustrated on the last 3 miles sharing the path.

They had 2 water stops on the 5K race, which ended up being 4 stops since it was an out and back. That was nice but a bit overkill. They bathroom situation was bad. There just wasn't enough restrooms or porta-potties for the number of women there.

Overall it was a great race for me and a 5K PR.

Warrior Fitness

I bought a Living Social deal for 20 classes at Warrior Fitness for $20. It looked like a great deal and the studio was near my house making it easier for me to attend.  One summer in college I went to bi weekly kickboxing and not only was it a good workout it was a great stress reliever.  Before starting Warrior Fitness they wanted you to attend a new member orientation. I emailed hoping to get in this weekend and as luck would have it they and one opening for today.

I showed up a few minutes early and was greeted by Kelly who had me hand over my voucher and fill out a little paperwork. Getting there early I was able to watch the class before me finish up and I started to worry. Every single person was sweating.....dripping sweat! What did I sign myself up for. Oh well I was there and I was going to do it. We started a few minutes late as we were waiting for the rest of the people to show up. There was supposed to be 8 of us, and only 4 of us had showed.

After giving us loaner hand wraps and boxing gloves it was time to get started. The first half of the class went by fast, with a combination of hits, sprints around the rooms, squats, lunges and push ups! The second half of the class was more of the same, but I could instantly tell that I didn't fuel myself properly for this class. My hands were shaking and it was getting hard to remember the combos because I was tired.

Overall it was a great class I am going to need to invest in some hand wraps and boxing gloves as I was a little skeeved out by the smell of using used gloves. Good thing they are running a special for $29.99 for both gloves and hand wraps. I hope they are still having it next time I go in as I don't want to use loaner gloves again.

I didn't have sweat stains, but I was sweating and actually had to stop and take breaks during the class to keep going. I am looking forward to continuing the rest of my 19 classes - it should be interesting how I can fit them in over the next 60 days. Of course I am not sure if it was the best idea to try a new class the day before a 5K, hopefully my legs will still want to move tomorrow.

No energy

What do you do when your energey levels plummet. The past few days I feel like I have been dragging through the sand. Last night I was in bed by 9PM, instead of hitting the treadmill my head hit the pillow and I was out.  I hope I can get my energy back soon, I hate feeling this way. I am going to just make myself run tonight after work - get it doen before dinner so I have no excuse for not doing it later. Any suggestion for an energy pick me up?

On April 29th I was at my lowest weight for 2011 - 204lbs. Since then I completed my first half and then slipped into some bad habits. Then I had an amazing anniversary weekend and a long 4th of July celebration and the scale just kept creeping up. When we got home from our long weekend the scale hated me......ok its not the scales fault, I needed to make a change. Last Friday I decided that it was time to take control back and stop giving in to temptations and get back to reaching my weight loss goals.

Stats as of this morning:
Height - 5'8"  Weight - 214

My goal levels
- Next goal enter the forbidden forest  - 199lbs
- Enter the "overweight" range for BMI - 196lbs
- 2011 Goal - 180lbs
- Ultimate Goal "Normal" BMI range - 164lbs

Now that all that nastiness is behind us on to weekend plans. Saturday I have to go to packet pick up/expo for the See Jane Run in Seattle that takes place on Sunday.  Sunday I will be doing the 5K and wishing I had stayed training so that I could just do the half. I am sure I could walk it, but I think my body would hate me for that maybe next year.

Do you have any big plans for the weekend? Will you be racinig, training, relaxing or a little of everything?

Midnight showing

How many people out there will be at a Harry Potter midnight showing tonight? I for one will be tucked nicely into my bed and sleeping soundly at midnight. I have only been dragged to a couple midnight showings of movies an I always fall asleep. So I see no point in going. I am excited to see this movie saga come to an end. Are you a Harry Potter junkie? What do you think about it being in 3D? I am not a fan of 3D movies so that part bums me out.

As for working out, this week I have rest my alarm to sleep in and not stress about a morning workout. It just makes me grumpy if I don't get up and that makes the day go by extremely slow. Last night I completed day 2 of the push up challenge, abs, lunges and squats. I was going to head to the gym to ride the bike, but instead went to bed. I just felt like my body wanted me to sleep, which was perfect. I woke up with a slight headache, but after some water it went away. Which is good.

If the the rain stays away I plan to take another try at the hill tonight. If it starts raining I will just get my booty on the treadmill for 3 miles. Either way cardio it is.  I picked up my CSA vegetable delivery last night  - I forgot to take a photo but so much good stuff.  I really like this delivery, because it is helping me to focus on eating more fresh vegetables and fruits. Where before I knew I should eat them but I often skipped over them at the store. Also fresh, pulled from the ground carrots are so yummy and grilled a green pepper, tomato and onion last night on the BBQ along with some steak. I ate more veggies then meat - BBQ + Veggies = one happy girl!

The gas tank

When I was younger and thinner I used to call my tummy pooch the Gas Tank to my love machine. Yes I was that cheesy and didn't want to come to terms that I was getting fat. Now I pretty much just call it whatever nasty name I can come up with in the given moment.

One thing I noticed when I run is have no support on my stomach area. My core is not as strong as I would like it to be, but its pretty darn strong, yet the extra tummy fat on top of it is hiding all the sweet goodness underneath. It is even worse when I slowly gets more and more bloated until I look like I am running pregnant. Need a visual look that this photo of Scarlett Johansson  she is in much better shape then me and yet she still gets the belly pooch when she runs. When my stomach is pulled in I feel more support in my core, I feel stronger.

Last night when I went out for my run I tried a combo of clothing to try to get that support. I tossed on my CEP compression shorts  - hello compression, a running skirt and a tank, yet after the first mile my stomach had forced its way out and was creating a massive muffin sexy. The second mile was hill training After each run as I walked back down I was able to readjust the shorts and get a more support feeling for the next attempt.   I feel like I need to get a pair of Spanx to supported my gas tank.

One highlight of last nights 2.11 mile run, my first mile was 11:07, I think that is a record for a  mile outside. Of course I feel like I cheated a little as the first .25 is downhill, but you know I am going to take it and try to get better.  The second part of my run was much slower because I was trying to tackle the monster hill I live on. I took 4 attempts at it, each time pushing myself a little farther - if I had to estimate I would say I can run about 1/3 up the hill without stopping, not bad for my first attempt.

Any suggestion for tummy support when running?

Any tips for running a hill that looks like this?

I just went to order my RoadID, since I officially signed up for my second half marathon, it was time to make sure I was safe when I was out running.  I was looking at them this morning before I left for work when my daughter said she needed one also.   Simple for me and pink for Evie.  All of that seems simple until you get this message:

My favorite part is the last paragraph! It made me chuckle! I didn't order it this morning since both the colors and size we want are back ordered, but will soon.

Last night I hit the gym to get my workout in. The workout was slow and sluggish my legs felt like lead weights and my lungs were like an 80 year old smoker! I completed 2.5 miles on the treadmill then started the push up challenge. Initial test - completed 6 push ups. I figured I might as well start day one and completed the sets 6, 6, 4, 4, and 5, by the last set my arms were feeling it.  When I did this challenge before I did assisted push ups and at the start of that challenge I could only do 1 real push up and that was barely. Baby steps to improvement!

Do you have a RoadId or another form of identification when you are out on runs?

oh hello Monday

I am trying to be positive about the week. It has started out well, yesterday was a rest day but it didn't feel like one. I was on the go most of the day with my daughter, Starbucks, Costco, Panera and the local Children's museum all in one afternoon. Every where we went I noticed it wasn't as crowded as I expected. I mentioned to my husband that I felt like I was missing out on something big. Later when we went to pick up dinner I saw a sign that said Bare Buns Fun Run.  Sean and I laughed.....that is what we were missing out on - the local nudist 5K.

I was just looking at my July goals and I have not doing so well, I am going to try to knock out a few of them this week:

- Start Kickboxing using the Living Social Coupon I picked up - I might not start this week but I can call and get all the information to start next week. Need to figure out the best times to go for our family schedule.
- Attend 4 Spin Classes - I can get at least one done this week!
- Run my hill 2x a week - Monday and Wednesday are my goal day

- Start push up challenge again, with 'real' push ups - Taking the initial challenge tonight

- Run 9 miles a week in any combination of runs - I can do this

- Register for the Amica Seattle Half Marathon - Done! I did this yesterday.

- Lose a few lbs  - I will have do this! I grilled up chicken for lunches yesterday, I have healthy meals planned for the week and not to much sugar in the house. I started the week off weighing the same as Friday which is always a good sign.

Now that I have my plan for the week ready I feel like I will be able to check things off my list. I am a list person! I need a plan and items to cross off.  I feel so much better about my goals if I have a detailed plan.

Are you a planner? or do you just fly by the seat of your pants?

Saturday Edition

Today for a little family fun we went for a hike. I am not much of a nature person so I invited my dad along to take us to a good trail that was 3 almost 4 year old friendly.  After driving for 3 miles off the main road we came to the trail head. A photo at the start, and proof that we did take our SUV off the main road. I wore my garmin to keep track of our overall distance, and I figured it would be good in case we got lost also to use the GPS to get us back.

At the trail head signing in

The first bridge we had to cross

Evie wanted to be the leader of the hike, but also wanted to race so we did lots of sprint intervals.

1.5 miles from our car we hit the first waterfall, we walked down to the base and tossed rocks in the river and had a snack. Since we had Evie with us and my dad who has a bad knee we decided that this distance was perfect for all of us.

On the way back Evie kept saying she was getting tired, so after I carried her on my shoulders for a little bit, we decided to race back to the car. Overall it was a create 3 mile round trip hike and fun family time.

A big thanks to and TallMom

Today I went to my mailbox and I had a package! I don't know about you but I love getting packages. In it were two water bottles that I won on Mel's blog contest from Planet Gear.  How cute are these two Sigg bottles. I take water bottle every day to work with me to stay hydrated at work. My daughter is going to be so excited to us the monkey bottle - I wanted to get a photo of her with it but she is napping and you never wake a sleeping child so no photo.

Thanks again PlanetGear for this great giveaway and Tall Mom for hosting it!

My car ate my debt card

Did I just type that! I thought I lost my debt card this morning, after  a lot of frustration and searching around I finally spied it between the center counsel and the drivers seat. Small little fist pump! I was excited that I didn't lose it, but then I couldn't figure out how to get it out.

Normally you would just slide the seat up or back and the card would fall down. But my seats are on this little box, there really isn't an area under the seat, so when I move the eat the card does not fall. The card just sits there staring at me, teasing me and maybe even mocking me a little. Ha Ha you just got paid, but you can't use me. In the past I would have just used a credit card instead. In an effort to become debt free I cut up my credit cards this year - I only have a debit card! Now I have to wait for my wonderfully amazing, super crafty husband to get home and figure out how to get it out. (no sucking up there at all) :)

The reason this is bad is I had planned to register for 3 races today. Oh well, hopefully another day won't make a difference.

I hope everyone has an amazing Friday and a great weekend.

Is it still Thursday

Because I have three things to share:

1. Yesterday I picked up my CSA box, notice anything special - a free bar of dark chocolate and boy is it yummy. Today I was making Spaghetti for the rest of the family but while I heated up there sauce. I tossed kale, spinach, onion and carrots in a pan and sauteed it together. When the noodles were done I added a dash of Garlic Infused Oil and tossed with my spaghetti noodles. Topped it off with a dash of red pepper flakes. All I can say is DELISH!  Next time I have to add more kale and spinach as I forgot how much it shrinks when cooked.

2. I ran today! 1 Mile  - I told myself while running to be proud of it. My lungs were burning, but my legs felt great. It was only a mile because that is how far it is from my house to Target. I had planned to run home, but I noticed their iPad2's were in stock and I called my hubby who came down to pick one up. He has been wanting one forever and had Target Gift cards to use. Since he was there I wussed out and hitched a ride home.

3. I plan to go hiking this weekend for the first time in a long time....I am thinking at least 10 years. Its not a difficult hike since my daughter will be coming with me, but hiking, who would have thought I would say hey lets go hiking.  I can't wait to take photos and share with you.

Fake Runner

From the August Runner's World -  "I often hear people say, 'I'm not a real runner.' We are all runners, some just run faster than others, that's all. I have never met a fake runner." - Bart Yasso

Sometimes I feel like a runner, sometimes I don't hence the blog title that I created. I often feel like a fake even after I have a good run. I feel like I am missing the drive, that desire, that spunk that you see in other runners.
What I really want is this feeling when I run.

How can we bottle up almost 4 year old joy and love for running! I could make millions if could find the sell a child's joy and excitement.  Run Happy!

To much to read

I love reading, love it but if I have to much in my queue ready to read I start to get a little stressed out.  Sounds strange I know, but I only like to have 1-2 books on ready to read at one time.

Right now I am reading:
I Love Everybody (and Other Atrocious Lies): True Tales of a Loudmouth Girl
August Issue of Runner's World and Shape

Loaded on my Nook or sitting on my night stand:
A Fierce Radiance
The 17 Day Diet
Quantum Wellness Cleanse
One other book that I can't remember the title of right now

I wish I could read while I workout. I see the other people do it on the treadmill or elliptical, but when ever I try I just end up reading the same line 5x or get motion sickness.

Can you read while working out? Any good books in your reading queue? Any must read books fitness related or not?

So much to say

And so little time!  We have only been home for a few hours from our long holiday weekend and I still have so much to do, like take my pictures off my camera,  but I am exhausted and decided to sit down and blog instead. We had an amazing weekend with friends that are like family.

My goal to do 30 minutes of exercise everyday was cut short on day 2. I should start with Day 1 to explain.

Friday Day 0 - After work we drove our dogs to my in laws then headed over the pass to our friends parents home in Eastern, Washington. We arrived around 9PM.

Saturday Day 1 - I was up at 6AM as the sun poured through our bedroom, as I tried to go back to sleep I started getting a headache so I decided to get up and go run. I think it was already 70 degree's at 6AM. I did a 2 mile jaunt and headed back to the house to stretch, do sit ups and then relax on the front porch with my nook. My daughter woke up at 7AM so I got very little reading in. Once the rest of the house was up we went down to the community pool for a few hours. Here I got my arm workout in lifting the children up to the side of the pool so they could jump off over and over again.  After lunch we took our Seadoo and tube out on the Columbia River for a little bit of water fun! We all came back slightly bruised. That evening my husband took the bikes out for a ride to look at some property. At the end of the night I thought this is going to be easy to get my workouts in.

Sunday Day 2 - I woke up at 7AM and could barely move my neck. I felt like I had severe whiplash. We spent most of the day at the pool and playing in the sun. In the evening the men took the Seadoo and tube back out, I decided to stay on dry land this time, which is good as my husband came back with a bloody nose.   I had no formal workout as moving my neck was near impossible.  Let just say when you can only look down it makes for a rough day.

Monday Day 3 - My neck was feeling a lot better but I was still unable to look up, even trying to rinse out my hair in the shower was extremely painful. The day was filled with 4th of July festivities which would count as a workout had I not eaten enough for 3 people! The one bad thing about us all getting together for a long weekend is we eat so good!

Tuesday Day 4 - This morning I woke up at 7:30 on the living room couch. This was because my daughter had a meltdown at 1AM, and then at 4AM was kicking me out of the Full size bed I was  sharing with her and my husband. I made it to the couch in the family room for  a few more hours of sleep until the sun woke me up. I am happy to say that as of this morning my neck feels so much better and after our 5 hour drive home I look forward to sleeping in my own bed.

Needless to say my month isn't starting out great but I have a plan to get this week back on track. Even if it means getting up for morning workouts again.  I have a 5K in 12 days and I don't feel prepared for it at all. I know many people can eat 5Ks for breakfast, but I need to get on booty in gear so that I feel confident when running it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend and I can't wait to have some time to catch up on everyone blog. I tend to unhook from the tech world when we go away, it just makes life so much easier for those few days.  I did check my email a couple of times, but other then that

Do you ever do that? Unhook for  technology?  Do you feel refreshed or nervous when you are not near your phone or computer?

Oh July how I love thee

First to recap the month of June, it wasn't the best month but it really showed me where I was slacking and I tried to pick up tips for improvement along the way.  Here were my goals for June:

- Complete a 5K - Complete
- Start FIRST program  - Started, but then stopped- Go to Spin Class 4x  - I attended 1 class
- Make a date with Jillian 30DS/Shred it with weights for the month  - I had a couple morning dates with her- Continue push up challenge - Finished with a Max of 40 when I did my final test- lose a few lbs - didn't happen

While it wasn't the wonderful month that I had hoped for, it wasn't terrible. I pretty much stayed the same weight wise, I got some workouts in, and I finished the push up challenge. Of course my goals for July are a bit lofty, but if I can complete at least 50% of them I will be happy! 100% would be awesome, but I know with my summer schedule that I am over planning just a bit.

July Goals:
- Start Kickboxing using the Living Social Coupon I picked up
- Attend 4 Spin Classes
- Run my hill 2x a week
- Start push up challenge again, with 'real' push ups
- Run 9 miles a week in any combination of runs
- Run the See Jane Run 5K in under 39 minutes - I am registered for this already
- Register for the Amica Seattle Half Marathon
- Lose a few lbs

I told you they were a bit lofty! I am ready to tackle this list, but first I have to get through the 4th of July weekend. I have my running shoes and Garmin packed so I have no excuse to not get out and run a little while we are away.

How was your June? Do you have bigger goals for July?
