Big week

Well, the week itself isn't big its that I have my first 10 miles planned for Sunday March 27th and I am scared. I have done 8 on a treadmill, but this is going to be 10 outside, providing the weather is not terrible. I don't like to run in the rain unless its a race day, I am a wimp. :) The weather forecast is calling for run on Sunday, but lets hope they are wrong. I do live in Washington and they are often wrong on the weather.

Here is my plan for the week to prep me for the 10.2 miles-

Sunday - 5 miles - done
Monday - Cross Train
Tuesday - 5 Miles
Wednesday - Cross Train
Thursday - 3 miles
Friday - Rest
Saturday - 2 miles
Sunday 10.2 miles - ekkk :)

I am currently on week 6 of my training, so almost half way done. As I review the rest of my schedule I see the farthest if has me running is 12 miles? I know there are two schools of thinking on. What are you thoughts? How do you train? Do you reach your full distance at least once before the race?

  1. you're going to ROCK your 10 miles!!!!!! seriously, you will. and 12 seems perfect mileage before your half. in all my training we never go the full distance before the marathon and it's always enough ;) plus, i wanted my first marathon distance to be when i was actually running it!

  2. No worries, you are going to do fine on that 10 miles. I was scared too before my first 10 but it all went naturally. Walk a bit if you need too.

My schedule makes me run also 12 miles as the longest distance and I was worried about that too and asked opinions of more experienced runners. Most of them said it's no problem and you will do fine on the half. A few ran the full distance before a race because they wanted to see if they could do it. It's what makes you feel more comfortable.

I'm going to stick to the 12 miles. If I can do that I can do 13.1 too.

  3. Thanks ladies, of course the fun part is trying to figure out a 10 mile course that we can use the jogging stroller on.....mayb I need to find a sitter for a couple of hours on Sunday.

  4. There are many, many training plans out there that don't have you reaching the distance until race day. That may work for others... but I need the confidence going into the race. I CAN do it, now it's about how well...
Good Luck on 10! I'm going for my furthest run EVER this Saturday too... 15. Hopefully weather will participate and I can hit my favorite trail for it.
